Upper

The upper has a real smooth look with a design that looks like two shoes were morphed together with straps around them to hold them in place. The rear section of the shoe is made out of synthetic leather. There is one strap around the back of the heel section and one in front with light-weight spikes coming out of it in the toecap section. Under Armour calls this the flexible forefoot strap and claims that it not only secures the foot in place and supports better lateral movements for athletic endeavors. The synthetic leather rear offers lightweight and durable support around the ankle section of the foot.

Midsole

The midsole is cushioned with full-length Micro G foam in order to turn hard landings into cushioned falls. The midsole also comes packaged with a charged cushioning crash pad that sits under the heel and can absorb impact from different forms of activities, such as jumps, landings, takeoffs, and abrupt stops. This isn’t as bouncy or responsive of Micro G that was used in shoes such as in the Black Ice, but it is very contained. You will be able to feel this particularly at the heel, where it is caged by the plastic midsole. The shoe’s midsole section also offers a molded EVA sock liner for extra underfoot comfort. Overall, for multi-purpose surfaces and foot comfort, it offers many nice features.

Outsole

The outsole, overall, is translucent and made out of rubber. It features a mini-nub design for versatile traction that is built to perform on any surface. This means these shoes can be taken anywhere and will not limit you from styling with them on at a party just as much as playing sports.;The outsole comes packed with almost a spiky texture of sorts, albeit without the same spike that is common in high-performance running shoes or soccer cleats. It is just a rough texture designed to keep you glued to most surfaces, and it performs adequately in this regard. The texture again is called a”turf dimple pattern” and was first used by Barry Sanders on his football series in the ’90s.;It grips indoor turf and carpet extremely well while still being comfortable on rougher or harder surfaces. The outsole isn’t meant for digging in deep, however, so thick or wet grass will give wearers some issues. However, if you are a baseball player or dig doing anything on a dirt surface, the traction is first class.

Breathability

The shoes do not appear to offer special ventilation features, but they do not really need to. They are made out of thin construction albeit in a solid armor-like upper. They are not designed to be heavy or make your feet sweat over long use as they are athletic shoes in nature. You shouldn’t have problems with their breathability in overall use.

Comfort

The shoes are a very tight fit with a light and flexible feel within a sock-like construction. They tend to run a bit big, so you should look into purchasing a half-size smaller than usual. In terms of how they fit on a foot, there are mixed opinions. Some wearers say that they are also very friendly for wide-foot use, while others say because they do not have traditional laces, they aren’t. The best practice is to try them on before purchasing, but if you are purchasing online keep in mind they tend to run bigger than usual.

Style

The shoes offer a style unlike any other. They look like a fusion of two different athletic brands for an out-of-this-world look. There is also a UA logo designated on the heel or the back section of the rear foot. It works well because the design comes right on top of the strap making it stand out a bit more in the eye of the beholder. If you are into the trendy no-show socks, however, being very low at the heel or not showing at all, keep in mind these are not the shoes for them. The heel section is just a bit too high for them in the rear section. There is a wide range of colors available and different designs to choose from.

Durability

The threadbare knit design on the upper is multicolor, reflective and offers a durable, stretchy and thin supportive. It feels like armor to keep the shoes very durable for long-term use. The rear, synthetic leather, the section is also very durable and padded well overall. The material is pretty thick and constructed well around the outside parts of the shoe.

Protection

The shoes offer an armor-like plating on top, albeit in a slim and light-weight form factor. The upper is again made out of a threadbare knit that is pretty flexible and hard as a surface. This means that the shoes are very durable against the elements and will serve the athlete well over long-term use.

Responsiveness

The shoes are very compact and designed to stick to the foot during turns, twists, and runs. The outsole design with its texture, again called a turf dimple pattern, will allow you to stay glued to most surfaces and the shoes offer various features so they will mold into the foot in overall usage. Each wearer should feel comfortable with them in a custom-like feel after a while. They come packed with a rubber outsole that has multi-directional traction built-in, which is nice regarding effectiveness during any movement.

Support

The shoes come packed with various features giving them a great support feeling. The upper section’s material is very tough and durable while the midsole offers extra cushioning with its Micro G foam giving the foot a real supported feeling. This, in turn, results in better landings and cushioned falls. Another support on foot included is a charged cushioning crash pad that sits under the heel and an EVA sockliner underfoot for extra comfort.

Terrain

Using the shoes on surfaces where the wearer has to dig in won’t work well. This means surfaces such as sand, snow, the thick or wet grass isn’t recommended to wear them. However, on almost all other surfaces they work well, especially with their outsole. Dirt, for instance, feels super responsive to their outsole grip design and other surfaces such as track work well as well. They are almost all-purpose in design, so various surfaces work well, albeit some like the previously-mentioned grass and slippery areas, do not work as well.

Price

These are not shoes, and you should expect this with designers from Cam Newton. They have the brand name behind them and celebrity status on top of the various extra features they offer. The shoes come with really a love-it or hate-it approach to their aesthetics, so the bottom line is when shopping for shoes at this price is if you will wear them a lot on athletic ventures or love their style and will wear them out and about. They are worth it for either of the two activities, but some may be put off by their appearance and very masculine aesthetic. However, the style is unique there are no questions asked, and the type of wearer who will purchase them either due to their namesake brand or due to being a football and sports fan will dig it.

Drop

The offset or drop is the only 6mm, which is minimal in design and almost non-existent. This makes the shoes as much useful for comfort as it is for endeavors such as running. It also makes them comfortable to take to a party or out in the city vs. just using them for athletic purposes. This also means the shoes are flatter and more symmetric than many pure athletic shoes, particularly running shoes where the tension is designed to be thrown to the rear-foot section.

Stability

Even though the shoes offer lateral movement support due to the straps, doing lateral movements on smooth surfaces can be tricky. This is because there is no coverage from side-to-side. So keep that in mind if you plan to use them for long basketball sessions. The real kicker about the shoes and their stability is that they come packed with an internal TPU shank just for this purpose of keeping them tight and stable.

Flexibility

The shoes are very flexible due to their design being rubber outsole with multi-directional traction. They are made for athletes and used by a professional football player. This gives them an edge when it comes to flexibility. They are also very flexible in use due to the straps they come packed with. The shoes’ lightness aspect also helps in this regard.

Traction

The UA C1N Trainer offer precise traction features and will keep you glued to the field as you run for touchdowns or participate in any athletic ability. They come packed with a rubber outsole that has multi-directional traction built-in. They are designed for stylish wear on top of playing sports. For football, basketball or such activities, they are great. The outsole again offers great traction due to the fact it features the turf dimple pattern for solid traction to most surfaces and it has been proven by athletes such as Barry Sanders to work great in sports.

Bottom Line

If you are an NFL fan, or more specifically a Cam Newton fan, there is no question you probably already considered them. You will be able to eat their high price and enjoy them for what they offer. For everyone else, they may be a bit harder of a buy. However, with so many features they offer for both comfort and performance, it is really worth considering them. This is particularly to those who dig their style with almost two designs in front and back. The shoes work in many different athletic endeavors due to having a great grip on the outsole and look good while being worn, which is never a bad thing.
