Upper

The Boston 7 is made up of Adidas’s lightest mesh material on the forefront which allows the runner maximum breathability while still helping them keep the support that they need while on the run. They kept the shoe lightweight by using a light mesh material at the quarter in the heel of the shoe. Under the mesh on the uppers of the shoes, Adidas added an internal lining that helps absorb moisture, whether from sweat or rain, to help keep your feet dry. No one wants to be running with wet soggy feet and this internal lining will keep your feet dry, clean, and healthy.

Midsole

Adidas didn’t change too much in the midsole of the New Boston 7 shoe. These still use the Boost foam, which provides a responsive cushioning for a good amount of spring in your step. That extra little pop you get with each step helps for faster running and better training. Some customers have stated that there is a lack of padding in the forefront of the shoe and it can be hard on the foot while doing longer runs. The midsole is also designed with symmetrical energy rails to help guide the foot in and lock it in place.

Outsole

The outsole of the new iteration of the Adidas Adizero Boston 7 hasn’t changed much since its predecessor. Adidas didn’t really feel the need to change much when it came to the outsole because they did such a good job with the design of past models. Adidas uses Stretchweb and Continental rubber for their outsole in this shoe. For those who don’t know, Continental is a company that produces and manufactures car tires. They partnered with Adidas to develop running shoes and these are just one of the byproducts of that partnership. The outsole is extremely durable and the traction it gives is fantastic.

Breathability

Adidas used their lightest engineered mesh when designing the Boston 7 to maximize the breathability while continuing to keep the shoe light and supportive. The ability of this shoe to breathe is especially important for those who are wearing them while running marathons. You don’t want your feet to overheat and slow you down. Nobody wants to be hitting the halfway point of their marathon only to start to feel the heat creep up in your feet. To have to run the rest of your marathon while overheating is not a good feeling. The beauty of these shoes is that you don’t have to worry about overheating or your feet suffocating in your shoes.

Comfort

There are mixed reviews when it comes to the comfort of these shoes. Many runners say that these shoes are comfortable out of the box. Runners have said that these shoes are really good for short workouts or track running but the lack of padding in the midsole can make you a bit uncomfortable on long runs. On the other hand, other runners find these shoes comfortable and would prefer to run marathons in these. It is a personal preference that depends on the runner.

Style

One thing that most Adizero Boston lovers can agree on is how much they love the style of these shoes. Both the men’s and women’s shoe offers two different colors to chose from. Women can choose from grey and white or aqua and clear mint. Men can choose from carbon and black or legend ink and shock lime. The Boston 7 is a perfect blend of a classic and modern running shoe.

Durability

One of the really good things that the Adidas Adizero Boston 7 shoes have going for them is their durability. The outsoles of the shoes are made with the Continental rubber that is equivalent to the rubber of car tires and can stand the test of time. The least durable part of the shoe is the forefront of the midsole. With very little padding at the forefront of the shoe, it tends to wear down quicker than the rest of the shoe.

Protection

The Adidas Adizero Boston 7 does not offer much protection for runners who need that little extra support. If you are a runner who has the tendency to roll your feet inwards or outwards then these shoes are not going to do much to protect your knees or shins. The good thing, however, about these shoes is that they do offer good protection from the elements. With the amazing traction on the bottom of the shoe, you are safe to run on a wet road or a dry track, uphill or down, without fear of slipping and falling due to lack of grip. After all, this shoe was designed to run marathons in a variety of conditions.

Responsiveness

There are mixed reviews about the responsiveness of the Adidas Adizero Boston 7. The light padding at the forefront of them makes for a less springy step and reduced responsiveness if you are a runner who lands on the front your feet. On the other side of that, runners who have the tendency to land on their heels feel that this shoe is very responsive. The extra boost padding in the heel of these shoes does give you that bounce when you step to keep you going and give you that little bit of extra speed to shave time off of your run.

Support

If you are a runner who has higher, more stable arches then these shoes are for you. The Adidas Adizero Boston 7 does not offer support for those who overpronate (roll their feet inwards) or supinate (roll outwards) while running. These shoes are definitely not made for the stability of those runners. On the other hand, runners without these problems find they love these shoes and give them just the right amount of support. Overall, these shoes offer moderate support.

Terrain

The Adidas Adizero Boston 7’s have such amazing traction on the outsoles of their shoes that you can run in almost any terrain. These shoes can be worn both in wet and dry weather without the fear of slipping and falling. With such a tight grip of the shoes on the pavement, you can run uphill or you can run downhill with ease. The Boston 7 is best used on roads, flat surfaces, or at the gym, however many customers have reported that they have used these shoes on many other surfaces and different terrains, such as dirt trail, grassy paths, and gravel roads, with no problem at all. Just because the shoe is marketed as an on the road marathon shoe, it does not mean that that is the only place you can run with them.

Price

The MSRP of the Adidas Adizero Boston 7 is $120, but some retailers may sell them for a cheaper price, which is on the more affordable side for running shoes of similar styles. This version of the Adidas Boston is priced about the same as the previous version when they were released. The Boston 7 is about midrange in the price for running shoes of the same caliber but many customers state that they are well worth the money they paid for them.

Drop

The drop of the Adidas Adizero Boston 7 comes in at 10mm, meaning the heel is going sit 10mm higher than the front of your foot. Because of this, you are going to be putting just a little bit more pressure on the front of your foot. Also, because of the drop, there is going to be a little less padding at the front of the shoe with a little extra on the back, to give you that angle. Some runners have complained that it can be a bit uncomfortable after long runs because of the little padding at the front, but those are typically the runners that land on their toes when running. The runners who land on their heels do not experience the same problem. The drop of this shoe is slightly higher than the average running shoe, however, the drop is the same as it has been in the past versions.

Stability

Adidas only made a few slight changes in the stability of the Boston 7 compared to their past iterations. One of the few things that they did alter a little was making their symmetrical energy rail a little stronger. The symmetrical energy rail works with the Boost cushioning, padding the midsole of the shoe. They are little rails that go along both sides of the outsole to help give you that little bit of extra support and stability.

Flexibility

The combination of the Continental rubber and Stretchweb outsole in the new Boston 7 helps the shoe to be more flexible for the wearer. The Stretchweb looks almost like a web on the bottom of the shoe, hence the name, and makes up a good portion of the outsole. The webbed design allows the shoe to flex more easily with each step. The ease of your motion while running in this shoe makes for a better experience for you because you can run more comfortably and effortlessly.

Traction

Because of the Continental rubber on the outsole of the shoe, these offer amazing traction for runners on both wet and dry services. The rubber on the outsole of the shoes is comparable to the durability and traction of the rubber of car tires. With the amazing traction on these shoes, the runner can easily run just about anywhere they want to.

Bottom Line

Adidas did not make a lot of changes when upgrading to the Boston 7, but the few changes they did make were for the better. This is the best version of the Adidas Boston line to date. The shoe is great for running at slow speeds and short distances but is comfortable and cool enough to take on long and speedy runs. Some runners have complaints about the lack of padding at the forefront of the shoe, but the overall consensus is that this is an all around good running shoe. It does not matter if you are just starting out or are a veteran runner, these shoes are for you.
