• Boost midsole provides superior energy• AdiWear carbon rubber outsole• Lightweight• Priced reasonably• FitFrame Molded TPU heel cup• High quality flexibility
Upper
The Solar RNR has an AirMesh upper that creates superior ventilation for the runner. The mesh is a stretchy type of material that allows movement while also providing structure. The mesh upper is also very thin, which enhances the breathability and lightweight feel. The only negative to having a very thin upper is that it isn’t as durable as a material with more substance. There is also a synthetic midfoot overlay which connects to the laces and creates extra support. The upper fits on top of the foot like a sock, so expect a lightweight experience when running.
Midsole
Although it is only visible in the heel, the Adidas signature Boost technology takes over the entire midsole. This material is exclusively from Adidas and maintains a comfortable and stable foundation. The TPU pellets that make up the Boost technology are clearly visible, adding on to the authenticity of the product. In regards to size, the forefoot has a slim part of midsole underneath whereas the heel has a large amount of support.;The heel section is significantly wider compared to the rest of the midsole, mostly due to the high amount of TPU capsules located in that section. By utilizing a shoe that returns a high amount of energy to the runner, you can expect yourself to feel less fatigued and more likely to run longer.
Outsole
The outsole is equipped with the Adidas-specific AdiWear technology. AdiWear is a highly durable carbon rubber that offers excellent balance, traction, and flexibility. This abrasion resistant material is primarily used to reduce the wear and tear in the toe-off and heel areas. This outsole will strongly benefit the frequent runner because it specifically targets two of the areas most used while running.;The outsole has a diamond pattern that barely exposes the midsole and depicts the Adidas logo towards the inner forefoot. While it is truly an abrasion resistant rubber, the outsole is fairly thin compared to the Boost midsole. This lack of mass could potentially hinder the traction of this sneaker.
Breathability
Sweat and heat are highly likely to roam within a runner’s sneaker, especially during warm weather. Luckily, the AirMesh upper offers ultra-breathability for the user. This thin mesh material creates airways that provide stable ventilation, keeping your feet simultaneously cool and dry. Ventilation is important because it keeps airflow consistent and keeps the feet from overheating.;This shoe is ideal for the summer runner, as they are highly likely to sweat during physical activity. The Solar RNR can eliminate that moisture and the odor that comes along running in the heat. Having such a thin upper enhances the runner’s movement as they feel like they are wearing socks.
Comfort
One of the more notable characteristics of the Adidas Solar RNR is that it makes the wearer feel very comfortable. The tongue and heel part of the upper is heavily padded. This feature will decrease the likelihood of blisters and other discomforts that come with consistent running. The outsole is sturdy enough to keep you from slipping and the midsole is soft, but not too soft to the point where you feel there is a lack of support and stability. One part of the shoe that takes away from its comfort factor is the way it fits. Some users have claimed that the shoe is quite narrow, making it more difficult to run in comfortably.
Style
At a first glance, these shoes have a very similar look to other Adidas Boost shoes. There is Boost in the heel, synthetic overlays at the midfoot, and a padded tongue to go along with the back. The biggest difference in this sneaker is the upper, which has a unique design, almost resembling a foam surface.;One suggestion would be to add more color schemes to this model of shoe. The Solar RNR doesn’t have as many color options as other Adidas sneakers, but you can choose between the basic black, grey, and red mixed with a black combination. A good thing about the current design of the RNR is that it doesn’t have a distinct “running” or “casual” look. It can be used for your daily running shoe in addition to your shoe for errands and other random activities.
Durability
Durability might not necessarily be a strong suit of the Solar RNR, but there are some parts of the shoe that are an exception. The most durable part of the shoe is the outsole. The AdiWear technology on the outsole is designed to withstand a high amount of usage. Primarily protecting the toe-off and heel areas, the runner won’t need to worry about their outsole smoothing out after fifty miles and losing traction in the process.;The midsole can also hold its own with the Boost Styrofoam-like material. It has the ability to absorb the heavy shock of a runner’s stride and needs to be strong in order to do so. The upper, on the other hand, is made with a mesh material. Although this material has some benefits, users report that it isn’t very durable. More specifically, they said that the upper detached or wore down after just a small amount of usage.
Protection
The AirMesh used in the upper doesn’t quite stop the foot from hurting, but the sole and padding used throughout the sneaker can protect the feet from subtle discomfort. It has been said by some testers that you can wear these sneakers without socks, and not worry about the fabric irritating your skin. The Boost midsole will block the bottom of the foot from impact, so there is no need to be concerned if you’re someone with arch issues.
Responsiveness
The responsiveness of the Solar RNR starts at the midsole. The Boost midsole absorbs the energy created from the gait cycle and sends it throughout the entirety of the shoe. Adidas’ Boost technology was designed to be the most responsive material available in the running niche. The blown TPU pellets in the midsole come together every time the foot lands and give the runner enough energy to take another step.;This shoe works great for someone who runs a high quantity of miles because they help combat foot exhaustion and sets you up for the next step.
Support
There are certain areas that contain a fair amount of support. The molded synthetic overlay in the midfoot focuses extra support in that area. The shoelaces are attached to the overlay, so the tighter you pull on them, the tighter the overlays will feel. This increases the overall support of the RNR. These overlays make the midfoot keep the foot feel snug, but not too tight. You can literally walk and/or run in these sneakers all day and not be disturbed by foot soreness.
Terrain
The Solar RNR works best on road surfaces. There isn’t a lot of grip on the outsole to be running in areas that contain a large amount of grass, dirt, or other rugged grounds. The AdiWear outsole can create some traction, most of which occur on smooth surfaces such as sidewalks, street pavement, or a gym floor. Since there has been bad feedback about wet surfaces such as ice and puddles, it is best to use a different type of shoe if you run outside during the winter months. If you run on the terrains for which this shoe is recommended, these shoes will perform as expected.
Price
The price for the Solar RNR looks quite affordable. With some sizes being available on well under $100, this shoe might have the most value with the cheapest price listing in the running industry. Even some of the more expensive sizes are listed quite reasonable compared to other running brands, and the odds are that the Solar RNR has similar quality to the other shoe. Overall, customers should be content with the bargain price that the Adidas Solar RNR is going for.
Drop
10.5 millimeters is the drop measurement for both the men’s and women’s versions of this shoe. The drop for the Solar RNR is slightly above the more recent “average” standard of 10 millimeters. Some feedback has stated that the runners started to feel knee pain, although it isn’t proven to be due to the slight increase in the drop.
Stability
The stability in the Solar RNR is average. The biggest highlight is the molded TPU surrounding the heel. This feature ensures the runner that the back of his or her foot will stay in place no matter how relaxed or rough your run is. Adidas also added the FitFrame feature in the heel. The TPU material serves the same purpose in the heel that it does within the midsole. It will absorb the impact that travels throughout the heel area, keeping the area free from any discomfort.
Flexibility
Some of the more natural movements of running require that the foot bend and straighten at certain areas. The Solar RNR has a reasonably flexible touch to it. The outsole is more of a stiff, durable material and the Boost midsole is soft enough to move with your natural motions. The mesh upper displays the most flexibility, as the toes need to bend during the foot strike.;The Solar RNR has special grooves on the outsole that contribute to the shoe’s flexibility. They allow the outsole to bend in a natural motion so that you won’t be inconvenienced by stiffness while you run.
Traction
The tread on the rubber outsole has the potential to create a decent amount of traction. There is just enough tread to grip onto flat surfaces, but not enough to really dig into certain parts of the ground. The Solar RNR loses traction when it comes to ice and other wet surfaces. Testers have claimed that the Solar RNR performs very poorly on wet conditions such as ice and shallow puddles.;Since the outsole is fairly thin with a lack of tread, it comes to no surprise that the Solar RNR is a better fit for warmer weather compared to a snow-filled environment.
Bottom Line
The Solar RNR model from Adidas is a sneaker with an average look and superior features that separates it from other shoes in the running market. This versatile sneaker offers average arch support, ultra-breathability, and great comfort. Equipped with superior technology from Adidas, this sneaker will be able to protect the feet from any running-related pain and enhance their training routine.;The best part of this shoe is the below average price. The low price makes this product more accessible to all levels of athlete, and based off of what you receive in value, is considered a steal. The daily runner would make great use of these sneakers, despite the questioning of the shoe’s durability. With a lightweight feel and excellent responsiveness, the Solar RNR from Adidas is worth consideration for your next purchase.
