• Less bulk
• Stylish appearance

Upper

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 features a closed mesh upper. The toe box has increased in size to allow for more breathing room. Inside the shoe, the EVA liner can be removed in order to use an orthotic. Most reviewers were happy with the shoe’s overall fit and had no complaints regarding hot spot or blister formation. The fit of the Supernova Sequence 8 was often described by wearers as glove-like and some runners even found the interior comfortable enough to wear without socks. The overlays featured in the upper ensure that the shoe remains secure and snug around the wearer’s foot. The height of the toe box has risen slightly as well in this version and runners will find they have a bit more room in the forefoot while still remaining secure.

Midsole

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 8’s midsole contains Boost foam material. This type of cushioning has now become extremely popular because of its excellent energy return properties and how comfortable it is. The Boost cushioning in the Sequence 8 still manages to run the length of the shoe. Denser EVA foam can be found in the midfoot area to improve stability and underfoot support. The Stableframe portion of the shoe can be found in the midfoot area (recall that the PROMODERATOR feature has been done away with since the last Supernova Sequence model) and helps prevent excessive pronation and offers arch support.

Outsole

The Supernova Sequence 8 offers similarly great traction compared to the previous model of the Adidas shoe. The outsole is made up of a special rubber. The Continental rubber grips the ground with ease (yes, even if you find yourself caught in a rainstorm), and is durable enough to keep up with your serious training schedule. Nearly every runner who ran in the Sequence 8 commented that the shoe greatly surpassed their expectations in terms of durability. The Continental rubber runs well on pavement but performs poorly on trails, even those that are non-technical. The lugs are meant to grip pavement, not mud or dirt trails.

Breathability

The closed mesh upper of the Adidas Sequence 8 breathes quite effectively. It reduces the chance of overheating and helps to keep feet from getting overly warm. Runners enjoyed the wider toe area in the shoe. The closed mesh design does leave something to be desired, as some runners found the shoe wasn’t as breathable as it could be.

Comfort

The comfortable Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 owes its comfortability to its midsole cushioning. There’s a reason the Boost material, featured in the midsole, is so popular. It’s so soft and plush but doesn’t skimp when it comes to energy-return. The Sequence 8 also fits quite well. The upper wraps the foot securely without causing pressure points. In addition, this version of the Supernova Sequence features an even wider toe area.

Style

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 keeps the same great style as the previous version of the shoe. The Supernova Sequence looks stylish enough to wear out casually. Adidas is clearly sticking with a trendier look and isn’t afraid to offer runners a lot of colors.;You don’t have to shy away from bright colors on the run. With the new colorways offered by Adidas in this version of the Sequence, you can stand out a bit while you train. Running is the time when you can be as flashy as you want, so why not go all out? The new color options are anything but boring.

Durability

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 is a durable shoe that should last a whole season of training. The outsole keeps the shoe from breaking down too fast. No one wants their outsole peeling off and the Sequence 8 stays intact no problem. As with the previous model, you will get a lot of life out of these shoes. The flat outsole lugs don’t protrude too much so there’s less chance of them ripping off or wearing down quickly. These shoes will definitely hold up for many miles !

Protection

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 is a workhorse of a shoe. Runners won’t feel too exposed in this shoe. This model has definitely lost a bit of the previous heft but it’s still built to last and ensures adequate protection for runners. The supportive shoe provides ample Boost foam cushioning which acts to pad the wearer’s ride and protect against the shock produced by each footfall. The shoe would work well for runners carrying a bit of extra weight who need a bit more support and cushioning underfoot.

Responsiveness

The Supernova Sequence 8 retains the same great responsiveness as the previous model. The shoe’s Boost foam cushioning offers a nice plush ride. The foam is a bit softer underfoot in this model and provides a great deal of energy-return during its transition from heel to toe. Runners will be happy to see that this model keeps the same great responsiveness introduced in the previous iteration. It makes runs in the Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 really enjoyable.

Support

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 provides the same moderate stability as its predecessor, the Sequence 7. The shoe’s PROMODERATOR stability feature is still absent and instead, runners are supported by a StableFrame component. It’s found in the midfoot and features denser foam cushioning to support the arch and control overpronation.

Terrain

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 won’t work for trail running. It’s best used on pavement since it’s a dedicated road shoe. The flat lugs simply can’t grip varied terrain. The Supernova Sequence 8 is meant for road running, pure and simple. The outsole grips pavement even when the weather offers up drizzling rain. Runners will feel grounded even when the weather takes a turn because of the tough Continental outsole.

Price

At about $130, the Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 is pretty affordable. It’s a good price for a shoe with such great stability and ample cushioning. Runners found the shoe lasted them 400+ miles so the durability alone hikes up the value of the shoe. Add to that the super comfortable (and popular) Boost cushioning and you’ve got a pretty great deal.

Drop

Interestingly enough, the drop in the Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 has been reduced a fair bit down to 7.7 mm. The drop has significantly decreased since the previous version, bringing runners closer to the ground and moving the focus slightly away from the heel. Despite this move towards the ground, the ground-feel still hasn’t improved very much. But this time around the shoe seems to be geared more towards midfoot strikers and forefoot strikers.

Stability

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 has the same stability features as the previous model. The PROMODERATOR component from previous models is still absent. Instead, the shoe features the new Stableframe stability component. In addition, more stability comes from the Torsion Shank. Which keeps the shoe from turning in on itself and thus acts to correct runners. Most runners relayed they were very supported in the Sequence 8 and liked the firm supportive arch area.

Flexibility

Adidas has chosen to focus on stability features in the Supernova Sequence 8 and ignore the poor flexibility of the shoe. Despite the shoe’s poor pliability, there is enough Boost Foam in the midsole to provide a ride with a nice amount of rebound. This ensures the shoe is comfortable enough overall, despite its rigidness. In this model, the foam is softer in the forefoot and heel. The shorter heel to toe drop brings runners closer to the ground.

Traction

With a Continental rubber outsole, the Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 grips underfoot with ease. Even when used in conditions that are wet, the lugs underfoot can grip the slick ground. If you live in an area where it’s always rainy and wet the Supernova Sequence 8 will keep you upright and won’t let you slip. The shoe features the same great traction seen in previous models.

Bottom Line

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 brings a few changes since the Supernova Sequence 7 and continues to offer great stability in a durable, comfortable shoe. Boost foam cushioning has been a definite game changer when it was first introduced in the Supernova Sequence 7. It has improved the Sequence line tenfold. The Sequence 8 is technically still a heavier shoe, but it looks a lot less clunky and many runners found it actually felt lighter than they expected.;This shoe is a workhorse and will last many miles. Some runners even said that they managed to get 1000+ miles out of the shoe. The Supernova Sequence 8 still deliver the same great stability and cushioning as the previous version. They feature the same excellent energy return with cushioning that’s a tad softer than before. It’s hard to figure out what might be changed on a shoe that seems to have a few caveats, but Adidas managed to improve the Sequence 7, even if only slightly.

Summary
Adidas has brought yet another addition to the Supernova Sequence. The Adidas Supernova Sequence 8 features the same very comfortable Boost Foam cushioning in its midsole. The shoe is still just as comfortable as its predecessor and features just a few changes since the last model. The forefoot and heel cushioning are a bit softer and the midfoot arch area is a bit firmer to increase stability and arch support. The Sequence 8 would work well for daily running. Some runners commented that the interior was so comfortable (thanks to the seamless technology) that they felt comfortable running without socks. As a stability trainer, the Sequence 8 is suited to runners who overpronate. The heel to toe drop has also decreased in the Supernova Sequence 8. This brings runners closer to the ground and eliminates the focus on heel striking. Full-length cushioning makes the shoe a great fit for any type of foot strike.
