Upper
You’ll find standard mesh material in the upper of the Asics Gel Equation 8. It’s the same mesh as the previous version so it’s just as breathable. It ventilates well, even in extremely warm weather.;The mesh upper is soft and flexible, which helps improve the shoe’s comfort. The flexible nature of the upper also ensures a better fit for wearers. The stitched overlays provide a snug fit and keep runners secure inside the shoe, reducing slippage. These synthetic overlays are attached to the lacing system so the fit can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the laces accordingly.;Some reviewers were unhappy with the narrow fit of the shoe. Unfortunately, this is an issue that has been carried forward from the Gel Equation 7. The Gel Cushioning, located in the heel of the shoe, offers a nice amount of attenuation. The outsole also features the same flex grooves seen in the previous Gel Equation model. Breathability
The Asics Gel Equation 8 is covered in pretty normal mesh material. This material allows for good ventilation. Some reviewers did find that the shoe fit tighter than expected, similarly to the previous version of the shoe. There is also an innocuous looking grey version with blue accents available in the men’s version. For women, the shoe is available in a fresh and modern black with pink and orange accents. There’s also a color option with a grey base featuring pops of pink and purple. If you’re getting the ladies version, you also have the choice of an indigo blue base with bright teal and pink accents. The color palettes for this Gel Equation model are certainly fresh and modern!
Durability
The Asics Gel Equation 8’s outsole contains AHAR rubber. The rubber covered outsole is meant to be durable and ensures protection from the elements and the effects of pounding the pavement. Surprisingly, though, several reviewers commented that the Gel Equation 8 performed poorly in terms of durability. Wearers were unhappy with the fact that the shoe seemed to have a short lifespan. The Gel Cushioning, placed in the rearfoot of the shoe also offers a bit of rebound for the wearer. With a nice amount of cushioning and a supportive base, the shoe seems like a good deal. Many runners, though, found the shoe had serious durability issues. When buying a shoe, it’s lifespan is an important consideration.;Like its predecessor, the Gel Equation 8 may not be worth the price because of these durability concerns.

The 10mm drop in the Asics Gel Equation 8 is pretty standard. The drop tends to promote a heel strike since there is a high concentration of cushioning in the heel. There were no comments regarding the shoe’s drop, so it doesn’t seem to pose a problem for most runners.

It can handle runs in wet weather just as well as it can grip dry pavement. It’s not poised to perform well when the ground is icy, though, so be careful if it’s below zero outside.;The shoe grips pavement quite well thanks to its flat lugs. These outsole lugs are not made for gripping terrain other than pavement, though, so take care if heading out for a weekend jog on the trails. On pavement, the Equation 8 should offer a fairly stable ride.
