Upper
The upper of the GT 2000 5 is great, as it features a fully seamless design. Not only does this look nice, but it stops any irritation that may come along with seams (when placed in the wrong spots.) The upper of the shoe is a little tight, but in a way that adds support and comfort to the foot. Also, the upper of the shoe is made of a highly breathable mesh. It also features a heel locking system which keeps the foot nice and snug.
Midsole
In the midsole of the Asics GT 2000 5, there are a couple of key features that make this shoe so great. One of them being the FluidRide construction, which helps to relieve shock on the runner’s foot. Also, the GT 2000 5 features Solyte foam, as seen in some previous models, to add high quality cushioning without taking away from the responsiveness and bounce back of the shoe. Additionally, in the forefoot and heel of the shoe are the Gel Cushioning System, for even more cushioning throughout the shoe. These cushioning features are great because they add a lot of comfort and support to the shoe without taking away from responsiveness.
Outsole
The outsole of the GT 2000 5 is a little different than some of the previous GT 2000 models. In this shoe, it features a more classic Asics design, featuring the Guidance Line, meant to help that transition from the foot leaving the ground, so when the foot hits back down again. Also, the outsole of the shoe has a lot of flexibility which is very helpful. Additionally, the Durasponge material gives not only great traction but helps with the durability. The AHAR (Asics High Abrasion Rubber) was placed heavily in the heel and front of the shoe for strategic purposes in terms of durability.
Breathability
The breathability of the GT 2000 5 is great due to the upper of the shoe. The lightweight, supportive mesh upper offers great breathability for the foot. This helps to keep the foot dry and cool during the run.
Comfort
The comfort of the Asics GT 2000 5 is superb due to the high levels of cushioning found throughout the shoe. The Gel Cushioning System seen in the midsole of the shoe offers comfort throughout the foot in key places. Also, the tight fitting upper offers great comfort to the foot while running. The comfort of this shoe is the main reason why many runners look into buying this shoe.
Style
The style of the GT 2000 5 is pretty nice and modern, though the there aren’t as many color options to choose from as there were in previous models. That being said, the color options that are currently available are attractive.
Durability
The durability of the GT 2000 5 is great, especially due to the AHAR found on the outsole of the shoe. The main point of the AHAR is to add not only some cushioning to the outsole of the shoe but to also make the shoe last longer. The seamless design seen in the upper is also key to the durability, as the seams won’t rip out of the shoe over time since there are no seams to do so.
Protection
The protection found in the Asics GT 2000 5 caters towards people who want to have their foot protected through the cushioning. Because of All the types of cushioning technology found in the shoe (Solyte, Gel Cushioning System, AHAR Durasponge) provide solid shock absorption. As for the upper of the shoe, there’s not too much protection from anything, nor should there be. The mesh of the shoe obviously isn’t going to stop anything like a significant impact to the foot, but this is expected. The tight fit and the Heel clutching system does help to keep the foot in place though, which does, in essence, offer some form of protection.
Responsiveness
The shoe is actually very responsive, despite the high amounts of cushioning. However, that is what the shoe is designed to do. The Gel cushioning system and the Solyte are made to offer a high level of responsiveness despite the high levels of cushioning. Also, the Durasponge offers great responsiveness on the bottom of the shoe.
Support
As previously discussed, the GT 2000 5 offers a ton of high quality cushioning made to support the foot. The Gel Cushioning System in the midsole offers lightweight cushioning that helps every step feeling a lot smoother, and the runner will feel a lot less shock. The upper of the shoe offers the tight-fitting mesh that keeps the foot locked in place, while the Heel Clutching System helps to keep the back of the foot locked in place, both providing support to the foot.
Terrain
The Asics GT 2000 5 is made to be run on hard terrain such as roads and other asphalt surfaces. Because of the AHAR, the durability of the shoe will still last for a while even if running on different types of terrain, but as recommended by Asics, the shoe is best fit for runners looking to run on hard, solid, dry surfaces
Price
The price of the Asics GT 2000 5 is definitely a little high, but by no means the most expensive running shoe on the market. Coming in at around $115, it might be just a little too much for some runner’s budgets. However, if you are a runner looking for a lot of comfort and support in your running shoe that doesn’t take away from responsiveness, then this shoe is definitely worth that little extra.
Drop
The drop of the GT 2000 5 is very standard: 10mm. Nothing too much to say here. The Heel height of the shoe is 22mm, and the forefoot height is 12mm. For runners looking for a standard drop in their shoe, this definitely fits in that category.
Stability
Again, this is where the Guidance Line feature really comes in handy. As the runner takes their foot off the ground and then lands again, the Guidance Line helps to keep the foot stable after each take-off and landing. Aside from the Guidance Line, the Heel Clutching System seen in the upper of the shoe helps to keep the whole foot stable and tight in the shoe. The GT 2000 5 certainly doesn’t lack stability.
Traction
The traction of the shoe isn’t anything special, but it isn’t bad either. The AHAR and Durasponge on the outsole of the shoe make for good traction that is going to last a long time. That being said, there are definitely shoes that have better initial traction than the GT 2000 5. The great thing about the traction on this shoe though is that it is going to last for a long duration of time before it really starts wearing out.
Bottom Line
The Asics GT 2000 5 is a great shoe for runners who are looking for a lot of comfort, and great support, without losing a lot of responsiveness. Though the shoe is definitely a little pricey to some, it is worth the money. If you are looking for a comfortable. supportive run, definitely check out the GT 2000 5.
