• Excellent cushioning and flexibility• Breathable and comfortable upper• No-sew overlays• Excellent reflectivity• Lightweight construction• Affordable shoe
Upper
As is common among the most breathable of shoes, the Puma Faas 300 v4 utilizes Air Mesh technology in order to ensure that the upper is as breathable as it is responsive. The air is then able to enter into the shoe without any restrictions, leaving your feet cool and dry. The fit is quite comfortable. While retaining a close fit, it’s also not too restrictive. There’s also a sockliner that ensures you’ll have a close fit no matter what.
Midsole
The midsole on the Puma Faas 300 v4 utilizes what is known as FAAS Foam+, a type of foam that’s meant to make your ride a little smoother but bouncier. The cushioning runs the entire length of the shoe, which means you won’t have to worry about the possibility of having parts of your foot that aren’t fully covered. This particular feature has been praised as being more comfortable than other running shoes.
Outsole
The Puma Faas 300 v4 is unique in that it makes use of what is called EverTrack, a highly durable sort of rubber which will ensure you won’t be burning through the outsole anytime soon. The traction is superb and works well in both dry and wet conditions. The shoe also makes use of EverRide+, a proprietary compound that’s been designed to be even more lightweight than previous versions, which were already quite light.
Breathability
As we’ve covered in our section on the shoe’s upper, the Puma Faas 300 v4 utilizes Air Mesh technology to ensure that the shoe has superior breathability. This level of breathability usually comes at a price, as you open yourself up to getting your feet soaked if it should rain. This isn’t a problem with the Puma Faas 300 v4, however, so you can run even in inclement weather and still have a positive experience.
Comfort
The comfort of the Puma Faas 300 v4 all starts with the upper, where you’ll find an AirMesh construction that ensures your running experience will be as breathable as it is comfortable. This experience extends to the no-sew construction and the fit that has been described by many reviewers as being similar to a sock. There’s also cushioning in the midsole that covers the full length of the shoe, meaning that your entire foot will be comfortable as you run.
Style
One of the few downsides to the Puma Faas 300 v4 is that there isn’t an abundance of color options. Those runners who like to really like to express themselves in the boldest way possible might be a little let down with this shoe. With that said, however, the shoe does display its colors in an attractive way. The color is kept on top, while the outsole is a solid color on its own.
Durability
The durability of the Puma Faas 300 v4 is quite impressive, and that’s thanks largely to the fact that there are two different rubber compounds. The first rubber compound provides a layer of cushioning underfoot while the second rubber compound near the heel provides both traction and durability.
Protection
The rear of the Puma Faas 300 v4 is protected by one of the two rubber compounds that Puma has utilized to make sure your foot isn’t a prey to the unforgiving nature of the paved surfaces you’ll be running on. This shoe also makes use of EverTrack, which makes sure that the ordinary wear of the road won’t affect your shoe all that much. This means you’ll be able to keep your pair longer without having to upgrade, giving you even more bang for your buck.
Responsiveness
The bulk of the responsiveness on the Puma Faas 300 v4 comes from the outsole, specifically the grooves that Puma has incorporated into the shoe in order to make the ride as smooth and responsive as possible. Along with this, the forefoot utilizes flex grooves that are especially deep so that the ride is even more responsive. Even the fabric of the upper has been designed to work well with all different foot types.
Support
The arch support on the Puma Faas 300 v4 was specifically designed to be neutral. There’s a big benefit of doing this. That means that the vast majority of runners will be covered by the support that this shoe provides. Where some runners will run into a problem is if they happen to be an under or overpronator. That’s because there are many other shoes that will do a better job of supporting their feet, such as shoes that are specifically designed to have a stable arch support. Still, most runners shouldn’t have a problem at all.
Terrain
The Puma Faas 300 v4 is a road runner, and this is very apparent when you consider the fact that there are two different types of rubber compound used to provide plenty of durability and protection from the elements. The shoe also makes use of a number of flex grooves in order to provide protection to the rest of the outsole while also giving you a high degree of flexibility. There are few downsides to the Puma Faas 300 v4, making it an excellent choice for road running.
Price
When you consider just how many features that the Puma Faas 300 v4 has, it seems pretty incredible that it would be offered at the price point it’s sold at. The shoe’s price ranges from around $65 to about $100. This doesn’t make the Puma Faas 300 v4 the cheapest running shoe, but it still is very reasonably priced.
Drop
The drop of the Puma Faas 300 v4 is 8mm for both the men’s and women’s versions of the shoe. Some runners may be accustomed to a slightly higher drop (a standard drop is 10mm). However, most runners can adjust to this slightly lower drop without any issues. It still provides a good amount of cushioning in the heel area, making it a good choice for heel strikers.
Stability
The shoe is quite stable without being too rigid, thanks in large part to the combination of having a thick and durable base of an outsole that’s then supplemented by dynamic flex grooves that ensure that the shoe is plenty competitive. Puma wasn’t messing around when they made the Puma Faas 300 v4, and this definitely shows in the running shoe’s stability. Stability is key when you’re running on paved surfaces, especially if you’re planning on running at a competitive level. This is something you can count on in the Puma Faas 300 v4.
Flexibility
We’ve talked about it earlier, but it bears repeating: the Puma Faas 300 v4 is superb in terms of flexibility. It has a number of flex grooves on the bottom of the shoe, simultaneously allowing the shoe to be very flexible while also staying very tough and durable. This is especially important on a roadrunner, as you need the shoe to be plenty flexible in order to keep up with the demands of the road as you’re running. As with the majority of the other aspects of the Puma Faas 300 v4, it’s quite flexible.
Traction
The traction on the Puma Faas 300 v4 is exceptional, thanks in large part to the two different types of rubber compounds that were used in the shoe’s outsole. This supportive base is then supplemented by a series of flex grooves that simultaneously make the shoe more flexible and give it traction too. The last thing you want is for a road runner to stand up just fine in good weather and then lose its grip on the pavement when it rains. Thankfully, that’s not a problem you have to worry about with the Puma Faas 300 v4.
Bottom Line
When it comes to the Puma Faas 300 v4 as not just a road runner but as a running shoe is that it far surpasses what you’d typically expect from the average running shoe. It’s exceedingly flexible despite being tough and durable, quite breathable and supportive on the top of the shoe, and it’s got a stable base that keeps you steady as you’re running. On top of all of this, it is being sold at a very reasonable price. The Puma Faas 300 v4 is definitely a great choice when it comes to buying a new road runner.
