Upper

The upper of the Puma Speed 600 Ignites are lined with an air mesh on the outside that allows for prime breathability. The mesh that makes up the upper part of the shoe has a mixture of smaller and larger openings. While the inside of the upper is molded with an ortholite sock liner, which assists with a perfect fit. Another highlight of this shoe is the reflective overlays that are placed on the upper. This is great for allowing runners to be seen on early morning runs at dawn or runs at dusk.

Midsole

The ignite foam midsole of these shoe has quick energy-returning qualities that use each step you take to give you more speed. The firm mid-level cushioning in these shoes give the foot a stable arch support and comfort. The dual layer foam gives runners the ideal amount of bounce that adds to each step. Runners reported that they felt themselves running faster when they were not even trying and the bounce of the shoe felt natural and light.

Outsole

The rubber outsoles of these shoes are embedded with a propulsion zone that enables the foot to have a faster push off, meaning a faster speed during runs. The lateral release grooves accompanied by the decoupled heel allow for a flexible rebound with every step. The rubber that makes up the outsole is Ever track + injection blown rubber for traction and grip while running.

Breathability

You can literally see the breathability in these shoes, the mesh material that overlays almost the whole of the upper part of the shoe is not just for aesthetics, it has smaller and larger sized mesh-holes to allow for maximum breathability. Sweaty feet can rest at ease knowing that they will have room to breathe during runs with sufficient ventilation.

Comfort

Runners who had purchased this shoe reported a comfortable run. It is considered a little firmer cushioning when compared to most running shoes but many found it suitable. The Everfit material that lines the inside of the upper part of the shoes, like a sock liner, enables the shoes to fit snug and form to the shape of the foot without being too tight. Also, the mesh lining that covers the majority of the shoe is flexible and formfitting and the ortholite material on the inside of the shoe compliments the other component for formfitting perfection.

Style

The Puma Speed 600 Ignites has a sleek design that comes in a variety of color combinations. From pink to black, to green to grey, the colors are eye-catching but not too bright. This is great for runners who are looking for the not so typical bright colors that most running shoes are made. They have a subtle sleek look that runners seemed to appreciate. Of course, the Puma logo is on the tongue of the shoe, the well-known Puma is impossible to miss, adding to the design of the shoe. The reflective stripe on the shoe, not only serves as a way to be seen when it is dark out, but also adds a style element to the shoe.

Durability

The question that all runners want to know about the shoes they purchase, is will they last? Don’t fret, these shoes seem to stand up to the test when it comes to durability. The Evertrack + injection blown rubber that makes up the outsole of the shoes holds up well under mileage. Runners commented on the quality and resilience of the mesh upper as well as the ortholite sock liner mentioning the material did not easily fray or fall apart.

Protection

Protection was not the highest rated quality on these shoes. Runners complained of foot pains after long-distance runs, noting that the shoes felt like they had a high impact while running. Runners who ran short to mid-distance did not have these complaints though and felt the shoe had just the right about of cushioning to protect their feet.

Responsiveness

Multiple aspects of this shoe contribute to its responsiveness. This shoe was made for speed and all the details were based on this notion. With a propulsion zone at the outsole for a faster push off, dual layer Ignite foam in the midsole for a bounce with each step, and a decoupled heel for a flexible rebound this shoe screams responsiveness! As long as you are moving your feet in these shoes they will do the hard work for you.

Support

For short to mid-distance runs these shoes will supply your feet with the amount of support they need. Runners appreciated the firmer cushioning and the snug fit provided by molded ortholite sock liner, adjustable laces and flexible mesh formed well to feet. As for longer runs, runners who put over 10 miles during a run on these shoes complained that their feet felt beat up and sore after their run. This shoe would probably work best as a trainer shoe and not so much as a long distance shoe.

Terrain

These Puma’s are not meant for off-roading. These are strictly flat terrain shoes, like pavement or track. If you’re a trail runner these are not the shoes for you but if you hit the road on your daily runs these shoes will be perfect for a smooth ride.

Price

The price of these shoes ranges from about $90-$125. This is usually pretty standard for running shoes but many runners complained that they thought this price was a little too high for Puma. They are on the higher end price spectrum for Puma shoes but they are built with new technology and part of their new Speed Series. If you are willing to look around and find a good deal you can get these shoes for a decent price.

Traction

The traction in these shoes worked well on flat terrains, such as road and tracks. The rubber was a high quality that lasted well through the miles and the grooves in the outsole allow for extra traction.

Bottom Line

The Puma Speed 600 Ignites are geared for the everyday runner. While this shoe is not aimed at runners who run long distance or trails, this shoe is ideal for short to mid-distance runners who enjoy running on a flat terrain. Puma has combined a trio of technology to create a shoe that gives runners all the components to create optimal speed. These Pumas also offer a firmer cushioning for runners who are in search of a shoe that are not such much on the minimalist side and offer a little more bounce with each step. If this sounds like your style of running this shoe may be the shoe for you!
