Upper
The upper of the Saucony Peregrine 7 is made up of close-knit mesh. This type of upper construction helps to keep debris out of the shoe. Overtop this knit material is a Flex Film layer for support. Around the ankle portion of the shoe, there’s a quick-dry RUNDRY lining. Inside, a Premium Sock Liner wicks sweat and ensures bacteria is kept at bay. A toe bumper rounds out the front of the shoe and helps keep the foot from feeling the impact when encountering hard objects on the trail. Changes to the upper include a new Exoskeleton construction which means the upper is now seamless. The upper also fits better than before and has a wider toe box. The material also provides a bit more flexibility. The forefoot mesh used around the toe box also happens to be way more resistant than before.;Reviewers liked the more durable upper and its secure fit. They also noted that the laces stay tied and don’t easily come undone which is a must for trail running. Users also enjoyed the bigger forefoot area. The only complaint was centered around the tongue. It’s really short. It’s hard to pull it up enough and what happens is that when lacing, the laces tend to go past the tongue. It’s an awkward design flaw but it’s really one of the only flaws present, so it’s hard to focus too much on this one detail.
Midsole
The Saucony Peregrine 7 features new EVERUN cushioning in its midsole. This new midsole material provides better bounce and lasts a lot longer than the material that was used previously. The firm cushioning is supportive and responsive and provides plenty of padding for hard runs on tough terrain. At the back of the shoe, there’s no longer a hard uncomfortable heel counter. The new design is more comfortable, less rigid, but doesn’t reduce overall support. A rock plate, called the External Bedrock Component, is also present to ensure protection from hard trail elements. Reviewers agree that the shoe’s midsole cushioning is protective and comfortable and there’s enough protection to support plenty of off-road running.
Outsole
The outsole of any trail shoe is super important and the Saucony Peregrine 7’s is quality-made. The PWRTRAC outsole is made up of aggressive lugs that face all directions for outstanding traction. Reviewers agreed that the Saucony Peregrine 7 provides some of the best grip. It’s one of the best shoes available for technical terrain. Even reviewers who didn’t love the update were still super impressed by the outsole’s ability to grip surfaces. It’s really a perfect outsole for trail running.
Breathability
The Saucony Peregrine 7 features a breathable knit upper that’s dotted with secure Flex Film overlays. The Saucony Peregrine 7 comes in several colorful options for both men and women. For men, there is an orange and red version (pictured above), a black and green, and a red and black option. For women, there is a blue and yellow version, red and black, and a teal option. One thing runners really appreciated about the Saucony Peregrine 7 is that the color options do a great job at masking any mud accumulation. The darker parts of the shoe match well with the color of mud and it helps to make the shoe appear less dirty.
Durability
The Saucony Peregrine 7 provides excellent durability. The PWRTRAC outsole is tough enough to handle repeated poundings. The cushioning is long-lasting, according to reviewers and compared to previous versions of the Peregrine. The upper is made of a more resistant material, particularly in the forefoot area and the shoe is totally capable of handling lots of runs. It’s not going to break down easily. Reviewers liked how durable the shoe felt and were particularly impressed with the improved mesh material on the upper. None had any issues with tearing or ripping.

The Saucony Peregrine 7 provides plenty of protection for adventurous trail runners. The outsole has very aggressive lugs to keep trail explorers upright. The EVERUN midsole cushioning protects from impact but there’s also an External Bedrock rock plate for even more protection from objects on the trail that could cause potential injuries. Inside the shoe, moisture-wicking liners ensure feet don’t stay in sopping wet conditions and bacteria doesn’t have a chance to grow and multiply.
Responsiveness
The Saucony Peregrine 7 provides plenty of energy-return thanks to the midsole’s EVERUN padding. In fact, this version of the Peregrine provides more bounce than before. Reviewers liked how responsive the shoe felt.
Support
The Saucony Peregrine 7 does away with the hard, stiff heel counter of previous versions but support hasn’t gone away. The fit is still supportive thanks to a new Exoskeleton design for the upper. A TPU frame helps to support the wearer’s foot and the midsole EVERUN cushioning provides a firm supportive base for runners.
Terrain
The Saucony Peregrine 7 is made for trail conditions and it’s hard to see why it couldn’t handle any kind of terrain. The lugs jut out a fair bit and provide traction in all directions. As mentioned, even reviewers who preferred previous versions of the Peregrine (they were few and far between) could not believe how grippy the outsole was. It’s an excellent choice of off-road running.
Price
The Saucony Peregrine 7 is priced fairly for a shoe that’s won awards and gets such rave reviews from users. There’s barely anything negative to say about the Saucony Peregrine 7 so any price seems worth it. It’s also very durable so it won’t be surprising if you get a lot of mileage out of the shoe.
Drop
The Saucony Peregrine 7 features a 4mm drop. This low to the ground design keeps runners in tune with the ground beneath them. This is ultra important for trail running. Feeling the ground and getting a tactile response from below ensures not only a smooth ride but also ensures runners know where to land, move, and run to stay upright and stable.
Stability
The Saucony Peregrine 7 provides enough stability for wearers to bound down hills and up inclines confidently. The Exoskeleton of the shoe ensures wearers stay put inside their shoe. Laces stay tied so stability is not easily compromised. A roomy toe box allows for natural toe splay which helps encourage a stable landing. Some reviewers did notice there was less lateral stability than before. This might have something to do with the removal of the stiff heel counter. Most reviewers still feel supported but those with narrower heels may not appreciate this change. Still, this is one small negative. There’s little else to nitpick.
Flexibility
The Saucony Peregrine 7 provides plenty of flexibility. The outsole is tough but there’s enough flex there to ensure a smooth ride. The upper actually has been given a bit more flex this helps with fit, comfort, and when swelling occurs at the tail end of a long run, the fit doesn’t get unbearable.

There’s very little to dislike when it comes to the Saucony Peregrine 7. It’s hard to argue that this is an excellent trail shoe. There’s so very little to pick on with this shoe. The traction is nearly unmatched. The price is right. The shoe is durable. The fit is better than before with a wide toe box for extra breathing room. More resistant materials have enhanced the shoe’s quality. Heck, this shoe even won awards! Reviewers nearly unanimously agreed that the Saucony Peregrine 7 is the best version of the shoe yet. It’s comfortable and perfect for running technical trails and adventuring off-road.
