Upper
I was very pleased with the uppers of these Sketchers GoMeb Razor’s. While they did not have any overlays and the mesh material was minimalistic, they still provided a great snug fit and the breathability was fantastic. Don’t let the thin material fool you, the practically seamless GoKnit mesh was extremely comfortable and breathable. The shoes are lined with multi-density thread in areas that need added support throughout the upper. In addition, small triangular reflections are strategically placed throughout the shoe, making them a great choice for early morning or late night runs.
Midsole
While the shoe is very lightweight, it does not lack in midsole cushioning. These Skechers provide 5GEN technology in the midsole for added support from the impact. The midsole is firm yet flexible, giving the shoe a bouncy feeling to give runners a quick spring upon impact. I found that the cushioning in the heel is molded and feels slightly firmer and thicker than throughout the rest of the shoe. This took a few runs to adjust to because I tend to run on my toes. But once I got used to the extra padding in the heel, I found that I actually liked it. This would be prime for runners who prefer added support in the heel. The midsole is also lined with a midfoot strike zone to maximize the efficiency of each stride.
Outsole
The thick and durable rubber that make up the outsoles of the Skechers GoMeb Razor is sturdy, yet flexible. The bottom of the shoes is lined with a diamond webbed grip that is ideal for flat surfaces. While the outsole may look thick, the rubber is surprisingly flexible and allows for the perfect amount of bounce with each step.
Breathability
Probably one of the top features of these Skechers was the amount of breathability they offered. They were extremely fast drying when wet and the ventilation was great! I could practically feel the air circulating through throughout my runs. The uppers of the shoes have open ventilation in the toe box allowing sweaty feet to breath at ease. I took these shoes on multiple beach runs, sloshing through puddles and wet sand, they never retained water or mud and were quick to dry. The thin GoKnit material that forms the uppers has larger ventilation holes, especially in the toe box, that make them ideal for a run in wet conditions. If ventilation/breathability ranks high on your list of shoe features, I would definitely recommend trying these shoes.
Comfort
Skechers has definitely mastered how to make a comfortable shoe, these GoMed Razors were comfortable from day one and the break-in time was minimal. I was running 10 miles in these shoes after 4 days and they felt great. They also have a wide toe box, to accommodate for foot swelling during runs and those with wider feet. I often get shoes that are sized wide but for the GoMeb Razor’s that was not necessary. They have a roomy feel but are still snug enough to offer optimal support, making these shoes a great trainer. The midsole cushioning was adequate and provided good shock absorption as well as giving the foot a subtle bounce. They truly were extremely comfortable, often times I find that while running on long distances, there is one little part of of shoe that causes some sort of irritation but with these GoMeb’s there was no discomfort at all, even during an 11 mile run.
Style
The style of the GoMeb Razors is bright and eye-catching. When you’re wearing these shoes, you will definitely not be unseen! While they do not offer a wide array of color options, the colors that are offered and vibrant and fun. For women, they offer a purple and pink combination or black and aqua blue. I received multiple comments on the vibrant pink/purple GoMeb’s Razors! I loved how bold and bright they were. For men, there is black/red, orange/blue or green/blue. The side of the uppers has a subtle Sketchers emblem.
Durability
Durable rubber for long-wear performance makes up the outsoles of these shoes, which make them a great option for trainers. Knowing shoes will withstand a beating when using them to rack up mileage is always a concern among runners. Users commented that they held up well and the traction did not wear down easily. Looking at the upper material of the shoe, it is very thin, which allows maximum breathability. I was concerned with the durability, but the uppers surpassed my expectations and show no current signs of wear.
Protection
The midsole provides a majority of protection in these shoes. With the 5GEN technology to give runners extra protection from the impact of each stride, while also giving each step a responsive bounce. The midfoot strike zone in the midsole also protects runners from injuries such as shin splints, stress fractures, and IT band injuries.
Responsiveness
The GoMeb Razors offered a surprisingly quick response. The neutral shoe allowed for a natural feel but with each step, I could feel a slight rebound of energy from the shoe. The outsoles are firm but still very flexible and give a springy sensation with each step. Most of the energy propulsion felt like it came from the heel of the shoe but still allowed for a swift and comfortable ride.
Terrain
These are definitely road shoes, made for smooth flat surfaces, such as sidewalks, road, or track. While they are not built for the unbeaten path, if you are in search of the shoe to make your new daily road trainer, they are built just for that purpose.
Price
Ranging from $100-125 the price of these GoMeb’s is on the higher end spectrum for Skechers. While they are a little pricier, the shoes speak for themselves. They are breathable and comfortable and make for a great everyday trainer. Compared to other running shoe brands this is an average price for this style of shoe. I think Skechers is on the right track for making its move into the mid-high range, offering a product that is worth the money for the quality.
Drop
The 4mm drop of this shoe allows for a neutral position of the foot for a more natural and minimalist feel. The 4mm drop is before the padded insole is added, which can be removed. With the added insole the shoe is at a 6mm drop. I left the padded insole in the shoe while running for the extra cushioning. I preferred the 6mm drop, but I did try the shoe on without the insert (which was very easily removable) and the shoe still felt like it had a good amount of support.
Traction
The diamond pattern grip on the bottom of the shoe is moderate but still offers enough grip if the terrain is a little damp. As for dry, smooth, flat surfaces, the grip was sufficient and there were no problems with slipping. I ran a majority of the runs on the road or the beach, the GoMeb Razors ran great on both terrains and provided the right amount of traction. Not recommended for gravel or rough terrain.
Bottom Line
Skechers has combined 5GEN technology in the midsole, GoKnit uppers for optimal breathability, and a durable outsole rubber for endurance to create a lightweight shoe that offers runners a speedy ride. Comfort and breathability are key features the GoMeb Razors has to offer. While they do lean more towards the pricey side compared to other options of theirs, they offer many positive qualities and supply a smooth and seamless run. Being named after Meb, an Olympic runner speaks for itself when it comes to the quality of these shoes. I found these shoes to be a great option for a trainer, they were very comfortable from the first run and were more responsive than I had expected. Skechers has definitely created a shoe that is well-designed and ready to be your new training shoe!
