Upper

Without sacrificing style for function, the Flow Twist keeps its upper stylish while also providing superior breathability and fit. Comprised of a soft nylon ballistic mesh material that’s breathable and smooth to the touch, the upper is also fitted with synthetic and leather overlays that are supportive, durable, and flexible. These materials provide a firm structure that also supports the midfoot throughout a run, and the ballistic mesh fits snugly around the foot after lace-up to keep the foot comfortable and in place, no matter the variety of activities the wearer engages in. With an external heel cup for further stability, the Flow Twist’s upper matches its sturdy, well-constructed outsole to provide a comprehensive trainer that will keep the runner’s feet comfortable and able to go an extra few steps -or an extra mile – if need be.

Midsole

For the runner looking for comfort, one of the highlights of the Flow Twist is its midsole. Made of full-length Micro G foam, this tech provides both step-in softness and durability, keeping the foot comfortable throughout the ride. Providing great protection at footfall and a responsive take-off, the Micro G foam is the best Under Armour has to offer in a midsole. As an added bonus for those with sensitive olfactory systems or overworking glands, this midsole also keeps the shoe odor-free so that after a long run there’s no need to keep these trainers outside or in the garage so as not to offend. Adding to the comfort level is a molded footbed that conforms to the shape of the foot to offer additional comfort and cushioning after you break in a pair.

Outsole

Constructed from Under Armour’s regular sturdy rubber, the Flow Twist’s outsole has upgraded its traction by strategically placing its rubber traction in high wear and tear areas of the outsole to provide enhanced durability. The outsole is also very flexible that provides increased foot flexibility that aids in the runner’s stride.

Breathability

Thanks to its flexible soft nylon ballistic mesh upper, the Flow Twist is a highly breathable shoe. Retaining its style without the normally flimsy all-mesh uppers that many running shoes are constructed from, instead this trainer’s upper has leather and synthetic overlays that seemingly hide its breathability from plain sight. But just by wearing the shoe and going for a few miles, the runner will understand that they don’t need their running shoe to look flimsy for breathability, and don’t need to sacrifice style in service of keeping the foot cool.

Comfort

One of the major highlights of the Flow Twist is its incredible comfort. From the full-length Micro G foam that comprises the midsole, providing both step-in comfort while also delivering a responsive ride, to its molded footbed that conforms to the wearer’s foot shape for additional support and comfort, the Flow Twist is a remarkably comfortable shoe for its weight.

Style

Many running shoes boast of being lightweight and ultra-breathable but also unfortunately look like a neon-and-mesh nightmare that, outside of running, the wearer wouldn’t be caught dead in. Fortunately, the Under Armour Flow Twist is a striking and cool-looking shoe that the runner just may keep on for the rest of the day even after changing out of their running clothes. Featuring a sharp camo pattern on the forefront of its upper, leather and synthetic overlays that conceal the breathable nylon mesh underneath (without compromising breathability), and being subtly low cut, the Flow Twist is a smooth-looking trainer that some may mistake for being a shoe made for style rather than running–but why sacrifice one for the other?

Durability

With an outsole made of Under Armour’s standard sturdy rubber and a flexible upper constructed out of nylon ballistic mesh with leather and synthetic overlays, the Flow Twist is a durable shoe that is resistant to wear and tear–particularly its outsole, since the traction points have been placed in high- abrasion areas so the shoe can take a fair amount of punishment on the road without losing its edge.

Protection

Under Armour designed the Flow Twist to be a dynamic shoe meant to tackle numerous activities. As such, it’s meant to take a fair amount of wear and tear without breaking apart. And while its Micro G midsole will provide ample protection, shock absorption, and responsiveness to footfalls and lift-offs, and the outsole holds its ground against the hard surfaces a runner will find themselves treading during a ride, it is still specifically designed for the regular rigors of running. It may perform well on a dry trail, but this is not a trail runner. Alternately, although the leather and synthetic overlays will protect the foot against moderate climes and conditions, it’s not recommended for a romp through the mud, snow, or overall submersion. While a dynamic running shoe, it’s ideal for dry pavement and asphalt, not trail running or mountain climbing.

Responsiveness

Under Armour’s full-length Micro G midsole is designed for both comfort and responsiveness in mind: for the cushioning it provides on every landing, it also gives a nice lift-off with every stride. The molded footbed will also provide an extra feeling of stability and security for the foot, and its low-cut design allows the runner full ankle motion to adjust their stride and position during a run. Overall, the Flow Twist is a dynamic, responsive running shoe.

Support

Given its excellent Micro G midsole and molded footbed, the runner will feel comfortable and well-supported throughout their workout. With its neutral arch support, this trainer is designed specifically with neutral pronators in mind. The upper is designed for a secure fit from lace-up onward, while the lower drop of the Flow Twist provides a fair amount of stability.

Terrain

If your regular running routine has you traversing the sidewalks of your town, the asphalt of side roads, the pavement of your city, or the springy track surface of your local school, then the Flow Twist is ideal for these surfaces. However, while they are a dynamic enough trainer to be used as an everyday shoe or as an all-around athletic trainer, the Flow Twist is also specifically designed for dry, hard terrains. Perhaps not for the trail or more grueling, unstable grounds, the average runner will find that on the road, these perform very well.

Price

With excellent cushioning, a durable and well-designed outsole, and a stylish upper, the Under Armour Flow Twist is a moderately priced shoe with enough incentives to make the purchase a worthy one. Although not the most expensive shoe on the market, and not the most singularly focused one to the pursuit of running in its price range, as an all-around trainer that performs well on a run and can function great as an everyday shoe, the Flow Twist certainly looks every penny that it costs.

Drop

Lower than many running shoes on the market without being zero-drop or minimalist, the Flow Twist features a 6mm drop from heel to toe. While this may require a period of adjustment for runners used to a higher drop, this is an excellent intermediate shoe for those wanting to try out a lower drop without wanting to go fully zero-drop just yet.

Stability

One of the reasons the Flow Twist performs just as well as an all-around trainer as it does a running shoe is how it offers comfort and security in its construction. The molded footbed that conforms to the runner’s foot shape provides a supremely comfortable fit while its low drop offers an extra sense of stability. Although not a stability shoe (it is designed for runners with a neutral pronation), it offers neutral arch support and gives the runner a sense of stability from first step-in.

Flexibility

Thanks to its upper’s construction of soft nylon ballistic mesh and both leather and synthetic overlays, the Flow Twist remains a flexible shoe that conforms well to the shape of a foot after lace-up. Meanwhile, reviewers have also noted that the outsole is similarly flexible, providing the runner with a fair amount of surface control.

Traction

The well-designed outsole of the Flow Twist put its traction where the most well-tread sections are, and by putting these contact points in the areas where the most wear and tear occurs on a trainer, doubles down on its durability while also providing good traction for the neutral runner. With responsive traction to the average running surface, the Flow Twist grips the ground where it needs to while providing extra protection to the outsole.

Bottom Line

For style, comfort, and a dynamic all-around trainer, the Under Armour Flow Twist might just be your next favorite shoe. Featuring a Micro G full-length midsole that keeps the foot comfortable without sacrificing responsiveness and a breathable, well-ventilated nylon ballistic mesh upper with slick leather and synthetic overlays, the Flow Twist is the kind of show that you may want to keep on after a run–or start wearing on a full-time basis.;Stylish without trading performance for looks, the Flow Twist’s eye-catching upper may make some think it’s just another sneaker with no substance but its well-placed traction points on the outsole aim for the tread to meet pavement when out on a run. Although moderately priced, not many running shoes can boast of such a quality aesthetic while also providing the cushioning and responsiveness the Flow Twist has. Although there has been some criticism that the midfoot area is too narrow while others have found the upper uncomfortable against the skin, these personal preferences–like all preferences–vary from runner to runner. But in its price range, and for its combination of stylish form meeting performance function, the Under Armour Flow Twist is a slick trainer that’s found fans in both runners and the all-around athletic alike.
