Upper
The upper is made of the Climachill material which offers excellent breathability. This mesh is supported with synthetic overlays and covers a large majority of the Pure Boost Chill. The seamless upper gives the Pure Boost Chill a clean look while preventing irritation typically caused by seams within the shoe. This soft material adds comfort while giving the runner additional support. Just by looking at the well-made fabric, you can tell that this upper has great ventilation and flexibility.
Midsole
The midsole of the Pure Boost Chill contains the signature Adidas Boost material which provides responsiveness. The midsole is very thick in the rear of the sneaker and gets thinner towards the forefoot. This foam material is clearly visible and creates comfort and support for the runner due to its soft, thick nature. Experts in the running shoe industry consider the Boost material arguably the best midsole technology in the business.
Outsole
The Adidas Boost Chill outsole is made with a standard blown rubber. The rubber has deep flex grooves that provide a solid grip. With this type of outsole, you will be able to stick onto any smooth surface while running or walking. One subtle flaw of the outsole is how thin it is in comparison to the midsole. This lack of depth could potentially weaken the durability of the outsole since it is more likely that the outsole will wear down after consistent use.
Breathability
Breathability is one of the best features of this shoe. The Pure Boost Chill is effectively equipped with Adidas’ Climachill fabric. This special fabric instills a high amount of ventilation throughout the material, keeping feet cool and dry. The Climachill fabric is made with honeycomb mesh, which has large holes for incoming air to move freely throughout the shoe.;The stretchy fabric will provide a secure, but not restrictive fit around the foot while providing the extra comfort needed for longer runs. While the Climachill material provides excellent breathability, it is not recommended for use in the rain.
Comfort
From the upper to the midsole, the Pure Boost Chill offers a substantial amount of comfort. There is a significant amount of padding in the tongue and the upper. Don’t feel like wearing socks? The excellent breathability will allow you to go sockless if you choose. The back tab is at an angle so it doesn’t interfere with the back of your ankle while running. The Boost capsules in the midsole will decrease the amount of impact while running, so you will be able to comfortably run on hard surfaces with ease.
Style
The Pure Boost Chill has more of a modern look to it. The large Adidas logo seam-printed on the midsole takes away from the traditional Adidas look and creates a unique touch. The Pure Boost Chill resembles other models from the Pure Boost line with the padded back tab. This design depicts something unique compared to other brands and encourages the shoe to be used for daily activities.;The color you choose will also be mixed within the outsole. For example, if you buy the Pure Boost Chill in dark green, your outsole will be a green mixed with white. The only downside is the lack of color options. Other Adidas sneakers usually have over a handful of color choices, whereas the Pure Boost Chill has only three options.
Durability
This shoe contains tough, long-lasting rubber grids on the outsole. With the combination of plain rubber and flex grooves, it is very unlikely that the outsole will wear down quickly with consistent use. The upper is well made with a strong mesh material and a plush tongue. Since the upper looks thicker than the average running sneaker, it might imply that they are more resistant to damage compared to a regular running sneaker.;Furthermore, there is no outright claim that the Pure Boost Chill is more durable than any other Pure Boost sneaker, but based on the high-quality materials applied to the sneaker, it is assumed that it is strong enough to withstand daily usage.
Protection
Both the midsole and the upper offer extensive protection for the runner’s feet. The Pure Boost Chill is equipped with a toe guard within the upper. Strategically placed towards the forefoot, this toe guard is meant to protect the toes from being stubbed or bent in an uncomfortable position.;The surplus of Boost technology throughout the midsole ensures the wearer that the bottom of their feet will be protected from impact and discomfort that commonly occurs when running on hard surfaces. Your feet will no longer have to endure pain from your run because they will be right on top of a thick cushioning that is meant to make you feel as though you are walking and/or running on clouds.
Responsiveness
Responsiveness is arguably the best feature of the Adidas Pure Boost Chill. The Boost midsole foam has individual TPU pellets that squeeze together during each stride, absorbing the incoming shock and then distributing that energy into a more explosive take off. The outsole also features a special heel which helps eliminate shock and after landing, transitions it into energy. Both the midsole and outsole work together to provide solid responsiveness.
Support
When it comes to the support, this shoe works better for those who tend to land on their midfoot or heel, rather than those who prefer running on their forefoot. Since there is less cushioning in the forefoot area as there is throughout the rest of the midsole, it is evident that a majority of the support in this shoe comes from the midfoot and heel areas.;In regards to arch support, the Pure Boost Chill is considered a neutral sneaker. In other words, these shoes are best for runners who don’t need any additional support in the arch area.
Terrain
The daily runner would get the most out of the Pure Boost Chill on a smooth road. The recommended terrain for this sneaker is pavement, track, and other smooth surfaces. It is not meant for trail running. Using these shoes on trails will most likely decrease the lifespan of the shoe.
Price
The original retail price for the Adidas Pure Boost Chill is fair. Consider the amount of comfort and responsiveness, they are a good value. Some reviewers think the price is a little expensive, and that they can purchase newer Adidas sneakers for only “x” amount more. Other sneakers in the Pure Boost collection have been released at a slightly higher price which might be something to consider.
Drop
The drop for the Adidas Pure Boost Chill is about 10 millimeters. This measurement is the standard for most of the running shoes. It has been argued that any drop measurement below 6 millimeters increase the chances of injury, as opposed to shoes in the 10-12 millimeter range. While there hasn’t been any official evidence of this claim, a majority of today’s running sneakers have a heel-to-toe drop from 10 millimeters or slightly higher.
Stability
The Pure Boost Chill provides a subpar level of stability in comparison to other options on the running shoe market. Some wearers have claimed that the shoe is too tight, yet another select group claims the complete opposite, complaining that the Pure Boost Chill is somewhat loose on their feet. This excess amount of room ultimately leaves room for the foot to move. In addition, there isn’t any type of strap or increased ankle/heel support that stabilizes the foot.
Flexibility
While there is no clear indicator that the Pure Boost Chill features top of the line flexibility, it is important to look at the sole and the upper for clues regarding this. Despite the thick Boost midsole, the shoe does have a good amount of flexibility. The stretchy Climachill upper also enhances the flexibility of this shoe. The upper and midsole work together to allow for natural movement.
Traction
The plain rubber used throughout the outsole offers superior traction. The excellent traction will ensure you don’t lose your balance and potentially injure yourself while on a run. As stated before, this shoe does well on flat, hard surfaces. The outsole on this shoe might not be thick, but they are just enough to grasp onto any surface and keep you moving in any direction you desire.
Bottom Line
A combination of a casual shoe and a running shoe, the Adidas Pure Boost Chill has plenty to offer. The shoe’s features enhance overall performance as compared to the previous models in the Pure Boost line. The Pure Boost Chill is a comfortable shoe that efficiently delivers responsive Boost technology as well as a highly breathable upper. This versatile sneaker is made with some of the most advanced running technology in the market, and yet looks great as a casual, everyday shoe too.
