Upper

The upper of the Newton Gravity IV is made of a synthetic and mesh upper. This mesh helps to keep the upper of the shoe very comfortable for the runner. Many runners feel the tongue of the shoe is a little rough on the edges, but many look past it. Very breathable, many runners like how the shoe does a good job at keeping the foot dry, while warm on cold days, and cool on hotter days. The shoe seems to give a very custom fit to every runner’s foot, as the material starts to form around it a little bit.

Midsole

The midsole of the Newton Gravity IV features the High-Rebound EVA technology. This technology offers a spin on normal EVA style midsoles, as it offers the same cushioning seen in most shoes but with a highly responsive quality to the shoe by providing excellent energy return. Think of the High Rebound EVA midsole like a SpEVA midsole, just a little heavier and more responsive. This High Rebound EVA midsole offers the best of both worlds, cushioning and responsiveness, just sacrificed for a slightly heavier midsole.

Outsole

The outsole of the Newton Gravity IV is a very durable component of the shoe, offering the runner its S.H.A.R.C. rubber outsole. SHARC stands for Super High Abrasion Rubber Compound. This feature of the shoe makes the shoe extremely durable and will help the outsole to last the runner a long time. Also seen in the outsole are lugs that help take pressure off the ball of the foot. Many runners have found success in these shoes because it helps keep their body feeling much better after the run, with no foot pain or lower leg pain.

Breathability

Many users of the Newton Gravity IV are very happy with how the shoe breathes. They feel the shoe is able to keep their foot dry, both in terms of sweat and when running through water. Many also feel the shoe keeps the foot cooler on hot days, while inversely keeping the foot warm on cooler days. This helps many runners with comfort, as no one likes running in a shoe where breathability is minimal.

Comfort

The comfort of the Newton Gravity IV is a feature many runners tend to love. The sole unit of the shoe offers a ton of features that add to the comfort. Newton’s P.O.P 1 Technology makes a more efficient and responsive run. Also, the Biomechanical Metatarsal Sensor Plates support the foot and add to the overall comfort of the shoe. Lastly, the High Rebound EVA midsole of the shoe helps a great deal with responsiveness, which overall makes the run a lot more comfortable for the runner. Overall, this is a very comfortable light weight shoe, that runners looking for comfort should highly consider.

Style

While the style of the Newton Gravity IV is very unique, there is a slight downfall. There is only one color scheme available. That being said, the color of the only scheme to choose from still looks extremely cool. The option offers a light blue upper, which having a mix of yellow and red in the sole area. The shoe will certainly stick out in a crowd, but it is a shoe that is likely to get a lot of compliments because of its style. If you’re a runner looking for something a little different and creative in terms of the style of the shoe, this is going to be a great shoe for you to try out.

Durability

The durability of the shoe isn’t the best and is one of the biggest downfalls of the Newton Gravity IV. While the outsole of the shoe is made of their Super High Abrasion Rubber Compound, that’s about the only part of the shoe that has any durability to it. The rest of the shoe has been reported by many runners that it doesn’t last long and that it deteriorates pretty fast. While this might not be a problem with a shoe that doesn’t cost that much money, when paying the high price of this shoe, many runners expect it to last a lot longer.

Protection

The Newton Gravity IV doesn’t offer a whole lot in protection in terms of the upper of the foot, but it does a very good just at protecting the bottom of the foot and the lower leg from injury. The lugs in the sole area of the shoe offer a lot of protection to the ball of the foot, which serves as a dual purpose. The immediate area affected by these lugs is the ball area of the foot, but by protecting the ball of the foot, it protects the lower part of the leg from injury over time. The Biomechanical Metatarsal Sensor Plate also plays a big part in the protection of the foot, as it provides support to the foot. This extra support protects these specific parts of the foot from injury over time as well. The upper of the foot might not be that well protected, but the rest of the foot is, making it very good in terms of protection.

Responsiveness

The responsiveness of the Newton Gravity IV is extremely exceptional. With The High Rebound EVA midsole and the Action/Reaction Technology, they both play huge parts in the responsiveness of the shoe. Starting with the High Rebound EVA midsole, the midsole provides good energy return. The shoe emphasizes its energy returning features, as that’s what makes the shoe so unique. Newton’s patented Action/Reaction Technology claims to reduce energy loss with its springy, “trampoline” like ride. These two features make the shoe extremely responsive, which is something many runners are looking for. If this is something you are looking for in your next running shoe, the Newton Gravity IV might be the shoe for you.

Support

As far as support goes, the Newton Gravity IV offers a pretty good amount of support. The main area the support comes from is the Biomechanical Metatarsal Sensor Plate. Basically, what this does is provide support for important areas of the foot. While it doesn’t offer support for the foot as a whole, it does a great job at making sure the key parts are supported. If support is something you’re looking for in a shoe, this might very well be the shoe you want to look at.

Terrain

The terrain the Newton Gravity IV is meant to be run on is on the road. This shoe is not one that is going to last runners a long time running on different terrains, considering it doesn’t last that long running on the recommended terrain. For runner’s looking into buying this shoe, it should be noted that they should not use the shoe on anything besides road terrain, because it will likely not last as long, and will also not perform nearly as well as it would if used on road.

Price

The price is one of the other big downfalls of the Newton Gravity IV. Many runners are not willing to pay the high price tag for a shoe that will likely not last them as long as other shoes, which is the case with this shoe. The tradeoff of this shoe is that the features it offers are ones that are not commonly found in other shoes, and many runners like the uniqueness of the shoe. If you’re okay with the shoe potentially not lasting you long, the price tag will be very worth it because of the comfort and amazing feeling you’re going to get out of running in this shoe.

Drop

The drop of the Newton Gravity IV is a bit different compared to most shoes. Coming in at 3 mm, the shoe is going to feel very flat and a little close to the ground. For runners who like this feeling in a shoe, this is going to be a great option. Though, for those who are not, it is a good middle ground since there is some drop in the shoe still. It is a good option really for any runner comfortable enough to experiment with a shoe with a small drop.

Stability

The stability of the Newton Gravity IV is a feature that many runners like a lot about the shoe as well. The lugs in the sole of the shoe help to keep the foot extremely stable after each and every step. This feature helps to keep the foot supported and stable, making for a much more enjoyable run for the runner. If stability is something you’re looking for, this shoe will do the job for sure.

Flexibility

The flexibility of the Newton Gravity IV is nothing special. It’s not a stiff shoe by any means, though it’s not extremely flexible either. The shoe is going to get the job done though, and this feature is nothing that any runner should worry too much about.

Traction

There are no real features to add to the traction of the shoe, but the Newton Gravity IV has been reported to be very good according to many runners. Going back to the terrain, the traction is going to do the best being used on the surface it is meant to be run on. Being used on other terrains, the traction will not only wear down faster, but the traction will perform a lot worse. If you are a runner looking for a shoe with good traction, this feature certainly won’t disappoint.

Bottom Line

The bottom line is that this shoe is a great option for runners looking for something a little bit different. The features this shoe offers are great because they are not commonly found in other road running shoes, and they offer a completely different running experience than what most other runners are going to get out of their common running shoes. The lugs in the sole of the foot offer a level of comfort on the ball of the foot that helps protect the ball or the foot from injury, along with the lower part of the leg. Though the shoe comes in with a high price tag, many runners feel the shoe is very worth it because of the unique feature it offers. If this sounds like something you’re looking for in a shoe, this may very well be the shoe for you.

Summary
The Newton Gravity IV offers a unique option to runners looking for something different in their running shoe. Made up of components found in everyday running shoes, the Newton Gravity put a twist on each of these features to make it their own. Made in the USA, the shoe focuses on its P.O.P 1 Technology, which uses Open Chamber Action/Reaction technology in order to make runs more efficient and responsive. This Action/Reaction Technology, on the other hand, gives a springy, “trampoline” like quality to the shoe.
