Upper
The ISOFIT upper design includes a seamless toe box, which provides an excellent feel in the front of the shoe. The ISOFIT upper features an inner sleeve and a floating upper support cage, which basically eliminates the bunching and creasing that results from the change in shape of the runner’s foot during the run. The result is a seamless and snug fit throughout your entire run.;The upper on this version of the Hurricane is more noticeable and heavier than in previous versions. This can be attributed to the thickness of the overlays, as well as the heel counter. Since this is a stability shoe, the weight is actually a beneficial feature.
Midsole
The EVERUN technology makes the midsole of the Hurricane ISO 2 pretty special. EVERUN acts as a cushion boosting insert just beneath the heel and is used across the entire topsoil for stability. EVERUN has three times the property retention that standard EVA foam has.;This means more energy is returned per stride and more enjoyment during your longer runs. In addition to EVERUN, Saucony utilizes the PWRGRID+ technology for more cushioning, as well as utilizing a dual density medial post for added stability. A medial post is a device within the midsole that is firmer than the rest of the midsole. Medial posts are found in all stability and motion control shoes but are not usually found in cushioned shoes, making the Hurricane ISO 2 unique.
Outsole
The outsole technologies on the Saucony Hurricane ISO 2 include iBR, TRI-FLEX, and XT-900. iBR is soft and is placed near the midfoot for optimal cushioning. It maximizes flexibility and ground-feel while offering abrasion resistance, grip, and compression. XT-900 is premium carbon rubber and is placed in high wear areas to enhance durability. It combines with iBR to enhance grip on a range of surfaces for ultimate traction. The TRI-FLEX technology works to increase force dispersion over a greater surface area, while still optimizing flexibility and traction.
Breathability
The Hurricane ISO 2 is considered a “Breathable” shoe. And, as we all know, breathing is good. Saucony has breathable mesh running the length of the shoe, which is designed to move moisture away from the skin, keeping you running dry and comfortable. However, the cutouts of the shoe, although they increase the durability, have a negative effect on the breathability because they are made of synthetic materials.
Comfort
The Hurricane is extremely padded all over, from the toebox to the heel. Not only does the revolutionary ISOFIT system morph to the foot for a custom feel, the updated PWRGRID+ platform now provides 20% more cushioning, giving you a plush comfortable ride. Cushioning refers to the underfoot feel and the amount of impact protection provided by the compressing materials between the foot and the running surface.;Saucony used their brand new EVERUN technology to bring cushioning even closer to the foot. The EVERUN construction goes like this: Sockliner, an extra layer of cushioning closer to your foot, structural board, EVERUN heel pad, and then midsole cushioning. This allows continuous cushioning on every landing, through every stride, on every run.
Style
If you are a Saucony fan but haven’t yet tried a shoe from the Hurricane series, the ISO 2 has similar overlays, lacing set-ups, and external heel counters as the Saucony Zealots. However, the ISO 2 weighs a tad more in order to pack in the added cushioning and support. Those who enjoyed the previous Hurricane shoes will love this model.;This durable running shoe comes in men’s and women’s sizes 5-15, in medium and wide widths. Basic colors include: black, blue, grey, purple, and red. The best seller in the Hurricane series is the Women’s Hurricane ISO 2 in the pink/blue combo. For the men, the best seller and the top-rated is the Hurricane ISO 2 Wide in the black/silver/slime combo. Yes, you read correctly…..slime!
Durability
The Saucony iBR outsole technology is supremely lightweight but durable. There is a layer of plastic with the Hurricane Logo, on the shoe, that envelops the thick overlay, that envelops the mesh, that envelops the foam, that envelops your heel. Saucony has also fused some thinner overlays into the mesh near the toe box for some added durability. This makes for a long running life.
Protection
Reflective materials on the collar help to improve visibility during your runs. The Hurricane ISO 2 also has a high-elasticity sockliner that contours, in order to protect your foot, by alleviating pressure on key performance points.
Responsiveness
Although the Hurricane ISO 2 is the high end of cushioning for Saucony, don’t worry about feeling you are sinking into a pillow. You still get a responsive ride.
Support
The Hurricane ISO2 has an excellent amount of support. The ISOFIT system adapts to the shape and natural movement of your foot, allowing you to get the most out of your run Generally, speaking, support is the level of pronation control built into the shoe. The medial post is very stable and helps to prevent pronation. In addition, this shoe offers medium arch support.
Terrain
Although this shoe is primarily designed for road and track, it appears able to hold its support on all types of terrain. This is due to the increased forced dispersion over a large surface area while also receiving optimal flexibility and traction. The outsole has a fair amount of rubber and is rugged in comparison to many other types of stability shoes of the same class. The aggressive tread pattern under the forefoot makes it look like the shoe is designed for some mixed trail running in mind. The cushioning system should also make it easy to run over rocks and other encounters on basic trails.
Price
The Hurricane ISO 2 Reflex is brand new and is slightly more expensive than the Hurricane ISO 2. However, the Hurricane ISO 2 and the ISO 2 Wide are generally the same prices. Many runners feel the cost is offset by the stability and the durability provided by the Hurricane ISO2. (Hurricane ISO 2 Reflex information has not been included in this review).
Drop
The Hurricane ISO 2 features an 8mm offset. Cushioning is distributed more evenly between the heel and forefoot in a shoe with an 8mm offset. This results in your body staying more balanced and comfortable.
Stability
This shoe falls under the Guidance category, indicating stability for moderate to severe pronation. As mentioned above, the ISOFIT system delivers stability and support while adapting to your foot. The improved ISOFIT upper, cradles and supports the foot during every stride.
