Upper
The upper is made of synthetic leather, TPU and silicone. The synthetic leather covers most of the shoe and is soft, lightweight and flexible. It has laser etched perforations for ventilation and breathability on the inside midfoot and the lower part of the tongue. The tongue uses a burrito construction that gives a sock-like fit to the top of the foot and also helps guide the foot into a better gait. The upper also has ultrasonic welded seaming and Bemis tape for smooth, custom-fitting support and comfort that does not irritate the skin. The External TPU counter provides support and locks in the foot, while the seamless heel cup on the inside has a silicone grip for an anatomical, next-to-skin fit that also keeps the foot from sliding.
Midsole
The midsole is a thin layer of full-length EVA foam. It absorbs shock, cushions landings, provides light support, helps smooth transitions, and lightly pushes the foot back into the air after each step. It is lightweight and flexible, allowing the wearer to move quickly and naturally.
Outsole
The outsole is made of spikes, a spike plate, and a full-length Pebax plate. The spikes are 1/4″ pyramid spikes that have good traction on dirt tracks, allowing the wearer to pick up and maintain speed during sprints. The spikes generally have good strength and durability. The spike plate has eight slots, with four going across the bottom of the forefoot and the other four going around the outside edges of the forefoot. This pattern gives good power and speed. The top layer is the full-length Pebax plate, which is lightweight, strong, flexible, durable, and helps provide explosive takeoffs.
Breathability
The Under Armour SpeedForm Sprint Pro has good breathability. The upper is mostly synthetic leather and has three layers of five perforations on the inside midfoot to allow the shoe to stay ventilated. This helps keep the foot cool and dry during sprints and races. Additionally, the burrito tongue with a breathable fit that does not slip or cause irritation, has a few ventilation holes to allow air to travel around the foot. The seaming in the upper is ultrasonic and welded, with Bemis tape for a smooth fit that does not cause irritation. This shoe was designed for sprints and short runs, and is not as breathable as shoes designed for marathons or all-day use.
Comfort
The SpeedForm Sprint Pro is very comfortable and fits nicely, according to testers. The length and width are true to size, and only a few people thought the width was slightly small for its size. The sizes are unisex, so men should order in their regular size and women should order two sizes down. The outsole’s spike location helps create a comfortable run. The midsole’s EVA foam lightly cushions landings to make each step more comfortable. The upper has soft synthetic leather covering most of the upper, with a burrito tongue that gives a sock-like fit, and ultrasonic welded seaming and Bemis tape to prevent irritation and hot spots. The laces go through the tongue to create a comfortable fit around the midfoot and prevent the tongue from sliding. The rearfoot has an external TPU counter to lock it in place and a silicone seamless heel cup on the inside to create a custom and comfortable fit.
Style
Reviewers thought that this shoe has a great style. It is a unisex shoe and comes in Vapor Green/Vapor Green, Black/Gold, and White/Black. Not all colors and sizes are available at every retailer. The outsole has a shiny chrome color. The midsole is black in the black and green shoes and red in the white shoe. The laces are spotted for a fun look. The upper has a racing shoe look, with a black rearfoot and the rest of the shoe in the main color. The outside midfoot and forefoot has the word “SPEEDFORM” and the Under Armour logo. The inside midfoot has perforations. The tongue has a burrito style with perforations and a loop for the laces to go through.
Durability
The Under Armour SpeedForm Sprint Pro has good durability, with only a few testers experiencing problems. Most testers found that the outsole has durable spikes and spike plate, and the Pebax Plate is very strong. They have great grip and flexibility and do not wear down easily. Although it does not affect performance, the shiny chrome on the bottom might chip off, and the spikes can be difficult to clean. A few people had problems with the spikes breaking off or the slots chipping or not holding the spikes in. The spikes can be easily replaced, but the people who had broken slots had to exchange for another pair. The EVA foam in the midsole has good durability. The upper also has good durability in the synthetic leather tongue and upper, and the external TPU counter and seamless heel cup have great durability. For most testers, this shoe was able to last for many races without any problems with durability.
Protection
A lightweight shoe with some minimalist features, the SpeedForm Sprint Pro only offers light protection. The spikes prevent slipping and the Pebax plate helps prevent the wearer from bruising on objects on the ground. The EVA foam is thin but absorbs some shock while running. The upper protects against overheating with its perforations, the seaming and Bemis tape protect against blisters and hot spots, and the soft synthetic leather and burrito tongue protect against irritation. The External TPU Counter and seamless heel cup prevent the foot from sliding inside the shoe. This shoe was not designed for long runs, so it is not as protective against heat as other kinds of shoes. It also does not protect against over-pronation.
Responsiveness
This shoe has great responsiveness. The spike location works really well, providing a comfortable feel comfortable and allowing the wearer to pick up speed. The Pebax plate helps smooth transitions and create strong takeoffs. The outsole also provides good ground feel thanks to its low stack height. The midsole has some responsiveness in its EVA foam. The upper allows the foot to bend naturally and the toes to splay in order to pick up speed. The burrito tongue helps guide the foot. Testers found that this shoe has great performance.
Support
The Under Armour SpeedForm Sprint Pro offers light support. The midsole has a thin layer of EVA foam that supports the bottom of the foot but does not add much arch support. The upper has soft synthetic leather and a burrito tongue for support in the forefoot and midfoot. The heel is supported by the seamless heel cup that locks the foot in place and provides a comfortable and supportive custom fit.
Terrain
The SpeedForm Sprint Pro is a track and field shoe. It was designed for sprints from 100m to 400m, and its spikes perform well on tracks and dirt roads. It can also be used on grass and dirt for other track and field events. Its spikes were not designed for hard surfaces or slippery terrain.
Price
The original price was at the high end of the average range, but current pricing ranges from 12% off to 41% off the initial price. It is comfortable and has nice color options and great performance, so many track and field stars and their parents were willing to pay a little extra. At the current price, the shoe is a great deal, especially for such a popular brand.
Drop
This track and field shoe has a drop of 0mm. The cushioning is evenly distributed and is thin so it does not weigh the shoe down. The low stack height provides good ground feel as well as superior control, which is ideal for both sprints as well as track and field or training events that require fast movement in different directions. It also allows the wearer to strengthen the muscles and tendons in their feet. The forefoot naturally curves upward, encouraging the wearer to place their weight forward while running for faster speed.
Stability
This shoe has few stability features because it is neutral and was designed for speed. The spikes and spike plate stabilize takeoffs. The midsole is minimalist and does not prevent any pronation at all. The synthetic leather upper and burrito tongue provides a comfortable fit around the midfoot. The External TPU counter and seamless heel cup with silicone grip lock the heel in place to prevent slipping.
Flexibility
The SpeedForm Sprint Pro has good flexibility overall. The spike plate isn’t very flexible because it is metal and the spikes have to stay in place. The Pebax plate is very flexible in order to allow easy transitions and a natural gait. The thin EVA foam is also very flexible. The upper’s forefoot is very flexible to allow the toes to splay, the midfoot is flexible but the fit keeps the foot in place, and the heel is the least flexible, locking the heel in to prevent the foot from sliding.
Traction
The Under Armour SpeedForm Sprint Pro has good traction due to is great spike location. There are four spikes along the bottom of the forefoot and four around the outside edge of the forefoot. The spikes grip dirt really well, stabilizing the foot for strong takeoffs and allowing the wearer to pick up speed and perform well in sprints.
Bottom Line
The Under Armour SpeedForm Sprint Pro is a great shoe for sprinters of any level. It is lightweight, flexible, fast and strong. The spike distribution provides good traction, comfort, and performance. The upper is very soft and the fit is comfortable and locks the foot in place. The midsole has the right amount of cushioning to absorb shock without weighing the shoe down. The shoe comes in nice colors with a racing shoe look. It is not ideal for someone who over-pronates or needs extra cushioning, and the durability of the outsole could use a few improvements. Overall, this shoe is a good option for someone looking for speed and comfort for their track and field events.
