Key Features

• The ADIWEAR technology used to construct the outsole gives this shoe added grip and traction, making this a more versatile running shoe than some others.
• Midsole BOOST technology feels extra springy and bouncy with each foot strike.
• The TORSION SYSTEM used in this shoe gives arch support while simultaneously helping the shoe maintain its shape and preserve the sole of the shoe too.

Upper

While most running shoes today are made to ensure breathability, these shoes take breathability in a new direction. The upper is a woven synthetic material that looks and feels similar to cloth. It allows for maximum airflow so the foot will remain cool and dry even on hot runs. Wearing a breathable shoe is one way to help your chances of surviving those hot runs. In addition to the breathability offered by this model, you can also expect to receive extra comfort and protection from the lining. The slip-proof lining of the shoe keeps the foot securely in place and reduces irritation. There is also a sockliner in the shoe which gives the runner extra cushioning while providing extra support to the arch and heel of the foot.

Midsole

This model uses a traditional EVA (Ethylene-vinyl acetate) foam along the entire midsole. The choice to use an EVA foam reduces any added weight or thickness so the shoe feels comfortable and cushioned, without sacrificing responsiveness or flexibility. It helps keep the weight down which allows this to be one of the most lightweight running shoes out there at 6.8 ounces. Although this isn’t the top choice for a runner who is looking for intense arch support or correction for overpronation, it does utilize a technology called the TORSION SYSTEM that provides arch support and helps maintain the overall shape of the sole. Another key feature of this midsole is the BOOST technology that gives the runners added spring and bounce to each step.

Outsole

This shoe is considered highly comfortable and durable. A large part of this shoe’s durability and comfort come from the outsole. Durability is added through the ADIWEAR layer on the outsole. It holds up against wear and tear and keeps the shoe feeling new. Even though the outsole gives added the shoe added protection, it doesn’t reduce flexibility and responsiveness. The BOOST technology gives the shoe extra cushioning without weighing it down. This outsole is ideal for added traction as well.

Breathability

This shoe offers maximum breathability and comfort. While it is common for shoes today to include a breathable upper, this particular model includes a synthetic woven upper that wraps around the foot giving it a secure feel that also allows for maximum airflow. This material is clothlike in look and feel but is much more breathable. The maximum airflow keeps the foot dry and cool but it also is designed to ensure the foot can dry quickly if it happens to get wet too.

Comfort

The key to the extra cushy, comfortability of this shoe can be found in the BOOST technology of the midsole. Runners reported that it feels extra springy and cushioned without being thick or cumbersome. This BOOST technology can be found in the forefoot of the shoe. This gives the runner a bouncy spring with each foot strike. In addition to the lightweight, this added efficiency make this a good racing shoe.

Style

You can expect to find the classic Adidas insignia of repeated lines along the sides of these shoes. The Adizero Feather Boost is offered in two different color combinations: Red and white or black and white. Since the upper is made from a woven synthetic material it gives a polka-dot-like appearance. This style of this shoe has a classic, throw-back feel to it.

Durability

The outsole of this shoe provides maximum durability. The outsole uses ADIWEAR technology gives the shoe extra protection against the elements. These shoes hold up mile after mile. Runners commented that the Adizero Feather Boost holds up against long and difficult miles without losing their shape or bounce. This is a shoe that is good for both long distance and short fast races or running workouts.

Protection

Generally when runners think and talk about the protection offered to them by their running shoes they talk about the shock absorption of the midsoles of the durability of the outsoles, however, in this model, added protection comes from the inner lining of the shoe. The lining offers anti-slippage protection which keeps the foot secure and in place. This cuts down on friction which can reduce the risk of blisters.

Responsiveness

Even though this shoe comes with a durable outsole and cushioned midsole, runners reported that the level of responsiveness was still high. The midsole is cushioned for added comfort and durability, but runners reported that this did not get in the way of runners being able to feel the road beneath their feet.

Support

The inner lining of this shoe offers great support and protection to the runner. The liner is made of a non-slip material that keeps the foot secure and in place. The foot feels secure and snug, but because the upper is so breathable, it need feels restrictive or claustrophobic at all. The sockliner molds to the underfoot of the runner, allowing for a customized support. Also, the non-slip lining of the shoe is an important way to keep the foot locked down.

Terrain

While this shoe is not recommended for extreme off-roading adventures, there are some features on this shoe that keep it from being strictly reserved for roads running. The ADIWEAR outsole adds extra grip and traction which keeps your safe even in wet conditions or on uneven terrain Again, I wouldn’t take this shoe on extreme hiking expeditions, but it is reliable and durable enough to take onto groomed trails or light jaunts through the woods.

Price

The original price of this shoe brings it close to the $150 price range. This is pricey, but it is important to consider that it as an investment because this shoe received such high marks from runners in the durability and overall quality categories. In addition to this, this shoe can be found on sale for under $100, which, in my opinion, makes this shoe a no-brainer. To sum it up – this is not the most expensive shoe, but you are not going to find it on a list of most affordable running shoes either.

Drop

The classic running shoe has a heel drop between ten and twelve millimeters. In order to be considered a minimalistic shoe, the drop should be between zero and four millimeters. Some believe that a low drop shoe translates to a healthier stride, one that will cause less damage to joints over time. However, it is not suggested to go right from the classic ten-millimeter drop to a minimal drop of zero. Experts suggest training your foot by moving down in heel drop slowly, over time. This shoe has a heel drop of six which is perfect for the runner looking for a responsive shoe that is leaning towards a natural feel.

Stability

This shoe isn’t one that is designed to be an exceptional companion for runners looking for added support or stability for their arches or overpronation. There are lots of great options for the runner who has those needs, but this is a shoe that is best for the runner with limited arch needs. With that being said, although this is a shoe best suited for the neutral runner, Adidas did include the TORSION SYSTEM in the midsole which provides mild additional arch support for runners who need it.

Flexibility

The outsole is made using ADIWEAR technology. Although this offers added durability, it isn’t a clunky or think material so the Adizero Feather Boost is still able to maintain a higher level of flexibility. This shoe is suggested for the neutral runner, so you won’t find thick heels cumbersome added thickness in the midsole either.

Traction

Because of the ADIWEAR technology used on the outsole of this shoe, the runner can expect added grip. The ADIWEAR outsole holds onto surfaces well. This provides the runner with peace of mind while running in wet conditions or on uneven terrain.

Bottom Line

At the end of the day, this is an overall solid shoe. The outsole is durable but it doesn’t sacrifice flexibility or responsiveness. Because of the added cushioning provided, this shoe makes an excellent choice for your long run companion, your speedy 5k buddy, or even your everyday walking shoe partner. The six-millimeter drop gives the shoe a responsive feel too. It is a great shoe for the runner transitioning from a more classic ten or twelve-millimeter drop shoe to a natural shoe with a much lower heel drop.
