• EVA Stable Frame midsole

Upper

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 7 has an upper that’s covered in mesh. The upper is constructed out of two layers and has a nice stretch to it. The stretch allows some room for swelling during longer runs or during runs on significantly warmer days. The shoe fit is a little bit roomier than before. The toe box gives ample room for runners to wiggle their toes and some runners commented that it felt much more true to size.;The shoe’s liner, made of EVA foam, can be removed with no problem. Runners can easily slip in an orthotic if they need to, although the shoe already offers a correction. Most runners felt that the shoe fits well and found with no uncomfortable pressure points when wearing the shoe. The Supernova Sequence 7 was often described by wearers as “slipper-like.

Midsole

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 7’s midsole has been changed significantly. The release of boost cushion foam happened in 2014 just in time for it to appear in the new edition of the Supernova Sequence. Boost cushioning has become a staple in Adidas running shoes and offers ample shock protection while remaining super comfortable.;The Sequence 7 still has full-length cushioning. Boost cushioning runs the length of the shoe from the heel to the forefoot. There is some portion of the forefoot that is cushioned with EVA foam, though. Runners commented that the forefoot cushion was nice and bouncy. It makes for a nice feeling during toe-off. The shoe is still clearly geared towards heel strikers, but it’s nice to know that there’s cushion throughout the shoe that will accommodate any strike pattern. In this update, the PROMODERATOR stability tech has been removed and replaced with a StableFrame layer and provides even better support for the wearer.

Outsole

The outsole on the Supernova Sequence 7 features the same great grip as before. Continental rubber covers the outsole of the Sequence 7 and provides a nice amount of grip underfoot. The shoe can even grip wet pavement quite well. The outsole also happens to be durable, it’s the same great quality construction as before. It’s important to note that the Supernova Sequence 7 is primarily a road shoe. It won’t disintegrate in an instant if you take it for a trail run, but it’s not going to perform that well either. The tread underfoot is too flat to grip the trails.

Breathability

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 7’s upper has the same mesh as featured in previous versions of the shoe. It ventilates pretty well and works to maintain a comfortable temperature for the wearer. Runners liked that the forefoot area was still nice and wide, which helped with breathability and comfort. Toes should have enough room to move with ease.

Comfort

With the new Boost Foam cushioning, the Adidas Supernova Sequence 7 is definitely way more comfortable than before. There were fewer fit issues with this version of the shoe. The Supernova Sequence 7 fit snugly but not too tight. The toe box remains nice and roomy. Runners found the shoe fit just right and that the sizing was right on the money. There were fewer fit issues with the Sequence 7 than with its previous iteration.

Style

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 7 has gotten an even bigger style update this time around. This time around, some runners might find themselves wearing the shoe casually. The shoe has gotten a lot flashier and there’s no shortage of color in this new model. The options offered for men even feature neon colors ! It’s a welcome update in terms of style and it’s a nice change that will likely please those that prefer a more trendy shoe for their runs. Running is the time when you can be as flashy as you want. Why not go all out? The new color options are funky and exciting!

Durability

There’s no change when it comes to durability with the Adidas Supernova Sequence 7. It’s the same long-lasting shoe as before. The outsole can handle a pounding and the Continental brand rubber shouldn’t have trouble with high-mileage. These have a lot of life in them, same as with the previous models. It’s part of why this model offers such great value.

Protection

The bulky Adidas Supernova Sequence 7 provides great protection for wearers. The shoe’s super comfortable Boost cushioning provides excellent shock attenuation and supports the wearer. The shoe will work well for runners who need extra padding. Are you always recovering from injuries and need a bit of extra protection for your joints? Or maybe you’re heavier so you tend to hit the ground harder than others? Boost foam is your new best friend! This new cushioning material enhances the smoothness of a run and ensures runners feel protected no matter what distance they are running. Runners will also note that the heel’s FORMOTION unit has been done away with in this model.

Responsiveness

Adidas has improved the Supernova Sequence 7 a great deal in terms of responsiveness. The shoe now features Boost foam technology which offers runners a very comfortable cushioned ride. The other plus? The shoe is much more responsive than previously. The Boost foam definitely provides energy feedback as you toe-off on your run. Runners will definitely welcome this big change. It improves the feel of running in the Supernova 7.

Support

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 7 offers even more stability than the Sequence 6. The PROMODERATOR feature has been done away with and replaced by a StableFrame layer. Runners commented that they felt even more stable in this updated version of the shoe.

Terrain

Made for road running, the Adidas Supernova Sequence 7 performs badly on trails. The shoe slips and slides in muddy conditions and is best used on pavement. If you want a hybrid trainer, look elsewhere. The breathable mesh lets in debris. The outsole can’t grip slick mud, and you just won’t feel comfortable on trails in this shoe. On the road, running will be a breeze, though.

Price

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 7 can be found online for around $120. It’s a little bit more expensive than some of the previous models, but with the addition of new Boost Foam technology, the price tag seems fair. The addition of Boost foam cushioning elevates the shoe to another level in terms of quality and bang for your buck.

Drop

The heel to toe drop has been reduced a tad in the Adidas Supernova Sequence 7. The drop is now 10 mm. It’s a bit lower than the drop in the Supernova Sequence 6, but some runners commented that they found the drop a bit excessive. Yet again, the shoe features poor ground feel a complaint that is repeated by many runners. The shoe also has a fair bit of heel cushioning which tends to promote a heel strike pattern.

Stability

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 7 no longer contains the same PROMODERATOR feature as before. Instead, this technology has been replaced with a StableFrame feature which offers more stability. The Supernova Sequence 7 also features a Torsion shank which helps to counteract overpronation and helps to keep the Boost foam in the heel intact. The changes in stability technology seem to be a welcome change since many runners commented that they felt more secure and stable in this update of the Supernova Sequence.

Flexibility

The addition of added stability features in the Supernova Sequence 7 keeps this shoe rather rigid and inflexible. However, the responsive Boost foam makes up for this shortfall. Runners will love the energy return they get while running in this shoe. It’s a huge improvement over previous models. The lack of flexibility isn’t a deal breaker. The rigid feeling underfoot serves a purpose by keeping runners stable and supported.

Traction

As mentioned before, the Adidas Supernova Sequence 7 lacks the ability to provide traction when taken off-road. The lugs underfoot are flat and while they do well gripping pavement, trails are another story. The shoe works best for road running. The Supernova Sequence 7 can grip even wet pavement.

Bottom Line

The Adidas Supernova Sequence 7 is one of the best updates to the Adidas Supernova Sequence line so far. The addition of the Boost foam cushioning is a definite game changer. It’s still a bit of a heavy shoe, but it’s definitely a workhorse. Runners will find they get a ton of use out of these. Thanks to the addition of the Boost cushioning, they’ll feel stable and solid and will enjoy the improved responsiveness in this model. Runners will feel so comfortable that they might even forget they’re wearing the shoe.;As usual, this Supernova Sequence version remains a decent option for runners training for long-distance races. It’s also a good choice for overpronating marathoners. Newbies to the marathoning world might also find the Sequence 7 a good daily trainer. The shoe provides a good amount of comfortable padding which would also suit heavier runners. The durable construction paired with the excellent rebound offered by the Boost Foam make these another great addition to the Supernova Sequence line.

Summary
The newest addition to the Supernova Sequence lineup is the Adidas Supernova Sequence 7. This model brings along with it some pretty big changes. The new Supernova Sequence incorporates Boost foam cushioning technology. Runners loved the shoe’s overall comfortability and many chose it as a shoe for daily training. Some runners even mentioned that they forgot about the fact that they were even wearing the shoe at all! This is still a stability shoe, no doubt about that, and it’s a shoe that could be used by heavier runners with pronation troubles. Because of its ample cushioning, the shoe could also work for marathon training. The stability shoe remains a good choice for overpronating runners needing ample corrective features and padding underfoot. It’s also a great option for beginners training for their very first marathon. Runners should note that the shoe is pretty heavy, so it’s not a great option for those who prefer lighter running shoes. If you liked the ride provided by the Sequence 6, the Sequence 7 offers a similarly comfortable ride and chances are you’ll welcome the big updates that Adidas has made to the shoe.
