Upper

The FluidFit upper featured in the ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 offers runners a more customized fit. This is an update to the upper design in the Gel Nimbus 18, and wearers found the ASICS Gel Nimbus to fit like a glove. This snug fit was welcomed and runners commented on how well the Gel Nimbus 19 hold onto their feet. The upper is constructed with a seamless, breathable gradient jacquard-mesh material which minimizes foot irritation, keeping the runner’s foot comfortable mile after mile. The ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 features an anti-bacterial ComforDry X-40 Sockliner. The upper is also constructed with Heel Clutching System Technology, which places an exoskeletal heel counter on the rear of the shoe. This feature improves the overall fit through the rearfoot, provides the runner with additional heel support and gives the foot a more secure feel.

Midsole

This shoe features a new FlyteFoam Midsole Technology and FluidRide Midsole. The FluidRide Midsole provides the runner with a good amount of cushion with good energy return, a lightweight and long-lasting material. Some wearers commented that the foam and gel padding in the Gel Nimbus 19 is much firmer than the previous models. The FlyteFoam Midsole Technology is built to adapt to the runner’s foot and create a more customized running shoe. The ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 is not as soft as the Gel Nimbus 18s or 17s, but the wearers were still satisfied with the overall midsole design and cushion of this running shoe. The Rearfoot and Forefoot GEL Cushioning Systems provide the runner with excellent shock absorption upon impact and during toe-offs. This cushioning system gives the foot freedom of movement during the heel to toe transition. A few wearers found the forefoot cushioning to be better than the Gel Nimbus 18. Runners will also notice an improved cadence as a result of the Guidance Trusstic System Technology. This technology gives the Gel Nimbus 19 a strong and sturdy midfoot design. The Guidance Trusstic System Technology guarantees that the Gel Nimbus 19 holds up well through the midfoot and does not break down excessively after use.

Outsole

The Gel Nimbus 19 features a rubber outsole. ASICS High-Abrasion Rubber is located in the heel of the shoe for increased durability. The DuraSponge outsole, made from carbon rubber, is located in the forefoot and gives the outsole the durability it needs to last through high mileage runs. Runners will also experience a more flexible forefoot and responsive ride. Compared to the previous model, the Gel Nimbus 18, the 19 features more toe spring.

Breathability

This ASICS shoe is constructed with a breathable mesh upper. However, some wearers found it to be a hotter running shoe and commented that this running shoe is not ventilated as well as other running shoes.

Comfort

ASICS is known for their well-cushioned running shoes. The Gel Nimbus 19 delivers this cushioned comfort that lasts all day. Many wearers found the Gel Nimbus 19 to be their preferred all-day shoe, especially those who stand on their feet all day. Most wearers did find the overall fit to be tighter in the toe box and heel areas when compared to previous models of the Gel Nimbus. This means the ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 may not be the best choice for those runners who prefer a roomier toe box. The FluidFit breathable mesh upper gives runners a more customized fit, creating a more comfortable ride. The runner experiences intentionally tightened or loosened areas through the upper. This design allows the runner’s foot to move more naturally. However, there are some reviewers that found it to be too snug.

Style

Runners can choose from 5 color patterns in the men’s version and 4 color patterns in the women’s version. The majority of the colors offered are neutral versus brights.

Durability

The materials used throughout the outsole, midsole and upper of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 provide runners with improved durability. The ASICS High-Abrasion Rubber is placed on the heel of the outsole to minimize the wear and tear experienced from running on asphalt. The DuraSponge technology used in the forefoot is built with a durable carbon rubber material. This long-lasting outsole material guarantees the runner will be able to log many miles before a replacement is needed. The FlyteFoam Midsole Technology and FluidRide Midsole deliver a more lightweight midsole construction without sacrificing durability and cushion. The resilience of the FlyteFoam technology makes the midsole of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 even more durable than previous models. Runners will be able to experience a higher level of cushioning that maintains a top standard of performance for much longer.

Protection

The ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 is designed with reflective elements for increased visibility in low-light conditions. The FluidFit breathable mesh upper is seamlessly constructed, reducing the occurrence of blisters or foot irritation. The breathable mesh keeps the foot cooler. The anti-bacterial properties of the ComforDry X-40 Sockliner guarantee a healthier foot environment. The flexible mesh upper works with the exoskeletal heel counter to provide runners with a snug fit. This snug fit keeps the foot more secure during a run, preventing accidental slippage.

Responsiveness

The FlyteFoam Midsole Technology used in the ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 is constructed with “organic super fibers” that deliver excellent bounce back. This creates an adaptive ride for the runner. Runners will experience a more responsive ride in the forefoot thanks to the DuraSponge outsole technology. The upper design of the ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 is responsive to the runner’s foot by providing varying levels of tension in specific areas of the shoe.

Support

This shoe offers wearers great arch support and a good amount of cushion. This running shoe works well for those who have flat feet and those who have high arches. Reviewers found the Gel Nimbus 19 to offer better heel support than earlier models of this shoe. This is also a great running shoe for those who suffer from Plantar Fasciitis.

Terrain

The ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 performs well on pavement and is the perfect running shoe for long-distances. The durable outsole construction also makes this a good option for gravel and well-maintained trail paths. Wearers also found this shoe to deliver on the treadmill and other cardio equipment.

Price

The ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 is an expensive running shoe. Overall, wearers were satisfied with the construction and performance, and many commented on the excellent comfort and durability this shoe has to offer. Runners are delivered a quality running shoe that will go the distance before needing to be replaced.

Drop

The ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 features a 10-mm heel to toe drop for the men’s version and a 12-mm heel to toe drop for the women’s version. The heel height for the men’s shoe is 23 mm and the heel height for the women’s shoe is 25 mm. The forefoot height for both the men’s and women’s shoe is 13 mm.

Stability

The Guidance Trusstic System Technology utilized in the Gel Nimbus 19 provides the runner with a sturdy midfoot construction. Runners will experience a firmer ride in the forefoot when compared to previous generations of this shoe. It is designed for runners who over-pronate and benefit from a neutral running shoe.

Flexibility

Overall, this is a flexible running shoe. The upper is designed to tailor to the shape of the runner’s foot while allowing for natural motion. The midsole construction adapts to the runner’s foot and stride during a run.

Traction

The rubber outsole offers the runner great traction on paved surfaces and gravel paths. The ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 has good grip on towpaths and bridle paths that are well-maintained. Wearers also experienced good traction while wearing these shoes indoors on smooth surfaces and while using on the treadmill.

Bottom Line

The ASICS Gel Nimbus 19 gets high marks for its comfort. Most reviewers commented positively on the cushiony feel of this neutral running shoe. Several reviewers found this shoe to offer good arch support, making this a good candidate for those who are on their feet for most of the day, walk a lot of miles on a daily basis and log running miles regularly. The use of the FlyteFoam Midsole Technology creates a feel that adapts to the wearer’s foot without making the shoe feel heavy. The more customized upper fit was a welcomed change to the Gel Nimbus series. The Gel Nimbus 19 protects the runner’s foot from irritation, blisters, and infection with the seamless upper construction and anti-bacterial ComforDry X-40 Sockliner. The addition of the Exoskeletal Heel Counter gives the wearer a secure and snug fitting trainer.
