Upper

Under Armour calls this updated technology ArmourVent™. This will be a nice upgrade to those runners who are coming from the similar Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo 2. The multi-layer synthetic upper is moisture wicking. This technology comes from the world of apparel where Under Armour is a major player. They’ve gone even further by using smooth, ultrasonic welded seaming with Bemis tape for next-to-skin support & comfort which helps avoid friction points or “hot spots”.

Midsole

The Micro G cushioning that has become one of the trademarks of an Under Armour shoe, is also found in the midsole. This provides great cushioning along with explosive feedback to minimize wasted energy. The fit of the shoe is also enhanced with the inclusion of a 6 mm non-removable sockliner. The combination of the Micro G cushioning and the sockliner makes for an amazing midsole experience that will leave runners very happy with the fit of the shoe.

Outsole

The outsole of the Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent is comprised of an anatomical design that looks to mimic the natural outline of the human foot. Under Armour has also added high-abrasion rubber inserts on key areas of the outsole to enhance durability and traction. This is a smart move to only add rubber to the most highly worn areas of the shoe. The lack of excessive outsole rubber helps to significantly reduce the overall weight of the shoe. The downside of this is that some runners may find the lack of rubber to result in a more slick surface. Most runners should find it to be enough grip and traction for most of the common running surfaces that runners come in contact with. But those looking for ultimate traction should look elsewhere.

Breathability

Once again, Under Armour did not disappoint when they created the SpeedForm Apollo Vent. They also feature an upper material that is made of breathable and lightweight mesh. This material is called ArmourVent™ and it gives a lot of comfortability and airflow in and out of the shoe.

Comfort

The UA SpeedForm Apollo Vent is quite a comfortable shoe. The full-length Micro G® foam adds a comfortable feel without sacrificing too much of the shoe’s support. Each step feels well-supported and the foot is propelled forward naturally. Under Armour has also included a seamless heel cup with a silicone grip for an anatomical fit that keeps the heel in place. The molded 4D Foam® footbed helps conform to the exact shape of your foot. Over time this means more comfort, and less slippage even when running without socks.

Style

With the Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent, the style preference will be of essence to any runner. Most runners will be really satisfied with the design of the SpeedForm Apollo Vent. There are few subtle color options that would allow the runners to blend in rather than standing out. The low profile design helps blend in with different situations. The shoe also has some subtle reflectivity to give both function and fashion for a futuristic look. The UA logo is subtle as usual and looks tasteful on the shoes. Runners who are fans of brightly colored shoes will certainly be into the black and electric yellow option while those looking for something more subdued can opt for the white and black style.

Durability

Under Armour has addressed this concern with their rubber outsole. The grooves found in the outsole design help to disperse the impact of each stride so that one area is less likely to break down sooner. They have added high-abrasion rubber inserts in the areas of the outsole that are prone to breaking down more quickly. The only downside to this is that there are large portions of the outsole that don’t feature the high-abrasion rubber. Some of these spots may see premature wear faster than expected.

Protection

The Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent should do well in the protection department. The high-abrasion rubber outsole is the main form of protection from the high-impact areas of the foot. Runners will also appreciate the full-length Micro G® foam in the midsole. A breathable mesh upper protects the ankle and upper portion of the shoe from the elements as well.

Responsiveness

The responsiveness of the Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent comes equipped with a full-length Micro G® foam. This kind of foam is placed along the midsole of the shoe. This kind of feature provides the runner with a comfortable experience and a great amount of responsiveness. The responsiveness of the shoe comes thanks to the sock liner that easily wraps around the runner’s foot. When the liner is connected to the foot the instability is getting reduced instantly. If this wasn’t enough, the shoe comes with a seamless heel cup that holds the feet in place.

Support

The UA SpeedForm Apollo Vent has a solid amount of support for such a lightweight training shoe. The midsole of the shoe features a TPU curve for extra support and stability. The upper is intentionally made a bit more flexible so it can keep the ankle supported. UA has also provided a seamless heel cup that protects against heel pain. Finally, this model comes with a cushioning and the flex grooves in the outsole which comes great as a source of support.

Terrain

The UA SpeedForm Apollo Vent is a shoe designed for versatility in training on the road and the track. It is great for pavement training because of its light weight and high breathability. Users will get the chance to run on various terrains such as gravel and soft trails. Unlike soft trails, demanding trails might not be a good match for these shoes as they don’t perform well on ice or rocky roads.

Price

Under Armour shoes don’t fall into the discount shoe category. However, the features offered within this shoe are more than comparable for the higher price.

Drop

The Under Armour SpeedForm Apollo Vent has a heel-to-toe drop of 8mm. This is an average drop for a running shoe but it is guaranteed that it will feel great to runners who are used to using 0 drop shoe options. Due to the flex grooves found on the bottom of the outsole, the drop may feel even more pronounced. Any runner who looks for a neutral shoe should search elsewhere.

Stability

The stability in the UA SpeedForm Apollo Vent comes mainly from the seamless heel cup. The rear portion of the shoe is supported by a silicone grip which helps the heel to remain intact. The outsole of the shoe is equipped with flex grooves which give a great balance to the foot. This adds so much to the shoe stability when users run on different types of terrain. The shoe comes with a breathable mesh upper that wraps around the forefoot and the ankle in a way that helps stabilize the movement of the foot.

Flexibility

The UA SpeedForm Apollo Vent are highly flexible shoes. These shoes come with a full-length Micro G® foam attached to the midsole. This feature makes the shoe particularly flexible and bouncy. The shoes also come with a breathable mesh upper material which additionally contributes to the flexibility and stability of the foot. The grooves flex and bend with each step making the run a pleasant and supportive experience.

Traction

Traction isn’t the strongest area for the UA SpeedForm Apollo Vent Disrupt but it should suit most people. Users are highly satisfied with the traction provided on the bottom of the outsole by the high-abrasion rubber but there are still areas of the outsole without this treatment. The spots between the rubber inserts could get slick on wet terrain. However, the traction should be sufficient for light mud or loose gravel. These shoes are designed to perform best on dry pavement or a track, and that’s where you’ll get the best running experience.

Bottom Line

The UA SpeedForm Apollo Vent is equipped with features that are really helpful for serious runners. This particular model comes with durability, support and lightweight speed. UA purposefully kept the weight really light and combined it with a completely new batch of features. This shoe comes with a full-length Micro G® foam cushioning which acts as a platform for stability and support. The color options are wide and will appeal to most runners. The SpeedForm Apollo is a great choice for any kind of runner with a stylish taste.
